The shinpan’s decision is final.

Yes, losing isn’t nice!

But before you start whining about shinpan’s decisions;

The reason kendo differs from other sports is that we don’t question the judges. Kendo is more than the shiai - respect is huge. So if you think you scored but you got no flags, get on with it!

Your job out there is to score a point that no judge can ignore. You want all three flags, immediately.

If the shinpan are experienced - your opinion is invalid.

If the shinpan are inexperienced - all the more reason you need to score something that cannot be disputed. Also, your opinion is invalid.

For those of you who have never properly shinpanned at an event, you may not realize how hard and stressful it is (especially if you are new to it). Most of the time the head judge (shinpan-cho) will be watching the matches and if he/she doesn’t like the judging, it is within their rights to act.

If a point gets scored against you;

Reset. Fight on. Don’t get distracted by useless thoughts about the point.

Above all, don’t talk negatively about the judges around others. Do NOT share your opinion on social media. If you can help it, don’t talk about their decisions at all. It’s not humble, it’s not modest, and it certainly isn’t kendo.
