Day 1 of Nanowrimo: gave it up in disgust after 600 words of pure drivel.
The problem is that I've been listening to Georgette Heyer's regency romances this week. 3 of them, in fact. Which is all well and good but the style doesn't work at all for my sci-fi / fantasy novel XD
...Celia brushed back her unruly brown curls with a troubled expression. “Well, yes, I suppose we have. Only… only I’m not sure it’s anything more than a flirtation for him. He’s been disappearing into the city at night, lately, and I don’t quite know…” She trailed off, biting her lip. Icarus bit back her immediate response, knowing full well that it wouldn’t help. The only way to allay Celia’s sudden fears would be to remind her of how Marcus was always attentive to her and, in Icarus’ opinion, rather too fond of her....
yeah, no. I'll try again tomorrow after hopefully getting Georgette Heyer's voice out of my head XD
Best of 2017
I was tagged by the lovely @snortinglaughter to share my top 5 creations of 2017. As usual, I’m gonna push the boundaries a little. :-) (Should come as no surprise to anyone, haha.) Ok. I am primarily a writer, so I’ll start with that. This year started slowly since I was recovering from 19 Years, but I wrote a couple things that were popular and some that I’m suuuuuuper proud of. (It’s funny how those things don’t always intersect.)
(These are all drarry, rated T)
1) Romancing the Sorcerer’s Stone (AO3) -- This one took me the longest to write. I’ve been working on it on-and-off for about a year, and I probably should have made it longer but I wanted to be done with it. Harry and Draco jet-set around the world on adventures chasing treasure and not noticing that they’re simultaneously falling for one another. Features subtle oblivious Drarry (that might become more resolved in a sequel?) and Astoria/Ginny where they spend most of the story pining after the boys and learning to stand up for themselves.
2) Inexorable Tide and Pounding Surf (AO3) -- This one got very little attention, which makes me sad because I love it. It’s basically just Harry wandering around the coast and redwoods of Northern California and being introspective after the war. And of *course* he just happens to find Draco working in a bookshop. XD
3) Just Harry (AO3) -- This one was supposed to be a silly one-shot but it got more attention than anything I’ve written thus far. Harry goes to a muggle college post-war, hoping to escape the fame and drama of the wizarding world. Of course his new roommate just happens to be one Draco Malfoy. Because fate and all.
4) The Difference Between a Cat and a Comma (AO3) -- This one also started as a one-shot, but grew into something more. Draco POV, eighth-year, a little angsty.
5) Some Other Metal Than Earth (AO3) -- a silly little eighth-year bodyswap fic where a potions accident leaves Harry and Draco inhabiting one another’s bodies and pretending that nothing has happened. They fail miserably.
Ahaha, here is where I’m gonna stretch the rules. These next five don’t beat out any of the fic, but I’m proud of them so I’m gonna share them (under the cut).
That moment you realize the mlm sci-fi/fantasy YA novel you’ve been toying with for the past few years is actually a wlw and everything makes so much more sense
Catch me sobbing and I attempt to plot and rewrite my fics, only to get writers block halfway through the first word

Apparently I only have the motivation to write while crying
Which is a shame considering how little angst wips I have
In any and all of my fanfictions, everyone can be assumed to not be cishet white under every circumstance
Trust me, I'll say if they're cishet and white. A solid chance they're gay af. Or at least not straight. Toss up for if they're cis. And for fics I don't write a lot of fiction that has white people as part of the plot. My own characters are also a toss up
I keep getting to this one part of my fanfiction, and it's so hard to fucking figure out? Like, I have the logistics down and everything, but I know all the information, whereas the heroes don't know all the information? And trying to write while remembering who has what information is a fucking hassle lmao
