Last Sunday, I woke up at 4am to my room shaking around me. It was an earthquake. The first one I had ever experienced in my life. I sat up in my bed with my eyes bulged in shock and amazement as I waited for it to be over. A part of me felt like it was a dream. The other part of me knew it was very real. Very real. After 2 or 3 minutes, it stopped, I looked around my dark room, and I laid back down.
Later that morning, as I was texting a friend of mine, I realized that it was May 3rd. I had moved to LA on January 3rd of this year and Sunday marked the beginning of my 5th month being here. In the midst of the conversation God put in my spirit that He was about to shake things up. I received it in my heart and even shared it with my friend in excitement. Then when I got to church, Pastor Robert Stearns, the speaker for the day, spoke about God shaking things up in the world and calling believers to step up to the plate of their purpose to affect change. To take the focus off of us by putting it on the goodness of God in our lives so that our lives could be examples to others.
I began to look back over the last 4 months and thank God for His grace, mercy, love, and provision. Seeing how easy it could have been for me to become discouraged along the way but thanking Him for sustaining me. This journey that we’re taking as creative and spiritual beings is not an easy one. There are many days when we’ll feel our absolute lowest but those are the days when we have to shake ourselves. We have to push ourselves to shift the perspective. When we begin to speak about the blessings of our Lord our seeming trouble becomes minute and eventually non-existent. We wield the power in what we allow our spiritual eyes to see. There are two sides to every story and your narrative is playing out in both the natural and spiritual realm. No matter how your circumstances may appear in the natural realm know that God wrote out your story in the spiritual realm before you were formed in your mother’s womb....and He’s faithful to complete it! Shake off all doubt, worry, and anxiety and press forward in your destiny knowing that your steps are ordered. Never allow how things appear to pull your focus more than an ever-present God!
21 When my heart was grieved
and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless and ignorant;
I was a brute beast before you.
23 Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.
