“something is very wrong with me...”
That morning, something a little different passed Skye's desk. A stiff cardboard envelope sat on top of her inbox. Its edges were reinforced and were sealed with tape that spelled out “CONFIDENTIAL” in red letters. Mission briefing details were inside, ready for Skye’s perusal. There was a note in Phil’s steady script. “Burn if not taking mission. If taking mission, return briefing with final report. —Director Coulson
Around her everything was eerily quiet and the only sounds within the lower levels of the seemingly abandoned building as Skye’s own quiet breaths and the occasional scuffle of her feet across broken pavement. The HYDRA base was one of the many that had been abandoned years ago according to her research, abandoned after the second World War but hidden well enough where no other occupants decided to take it over.
It wasn't Skye's first mission as team leader, both Coulson and May's faith in her had her lead several small missions already, but it was her first mission where back up wasn't going to be a few minutes away. She was nervous - something she learned was a good thing in the field. Being cautious saved lives, and after going over her strategy with Coulson more than once she was confident that this mission was going to go well.
Above her searching the upper levels were four other agents. Two of them were seasoned, recruited by Coulson to continue working for SHIELD in the shadows. Agent Sanchez was in his forties, but the man knew his way around the old school computer equipment and he had no problem following Skye's orders, something she was grateful for. Agent Fisher was the other seasoned Agent, competent with her fighting skills she was good to have a long and while she didn't talk a lot she made the two younger agents feel at ease. Skye wished she could have taken Fitzsimmons along with her on this mission, but since both of them were more needed in the base she had asked the two for suggestions on who to take to help look at their findings and that's how she found herself with the two very chatty scientists, Agent Cole and Agent Kenedy. In the beginning of their search they had found an old looking lab with several cabinets that would hopefully have some more information about the carvings Skye had been investigating for months now. Â
She clicks her com unit on, expecting to hear the casual chatter from the two scientists but stilled when she was met with nothing but static.
"Status report guys." Her com continued to fuzz out and Skye carefully took the safety off of her gun and raised it to look around the dark room.
Something was not right...
Suddenly there was a loud noise to her left and Skye turned sharply to see the door she came into slam shut. Either the building was haunted like the locals said, or this was a trap.
Her heart clenched in fear for the other agents and she hoped that they at least were able to communicate with one another.
The room is quiet for a few tense moments, each second passing with Skye becoming more and more tense, her fight instincts on full alert, when at last the whole room filled with a bright light, blinding her momentarily. When her eyes blinked into awareness Skye looked around to see that what she thought was some kind of storage room seemed to be some kind of lab, for what she didn't really want to think about but she had a feeling she might be finding out.
"You got me here in this freaky room, now what?" She shouts, trying to figure out a plan against her unknown enemy. Hoping they might give her some clue as to why she was being trapped. "You can't tell me you HYDRA fuckers want to keep quiet now, I know how much you all love to hear the sound of your own voices."
There was no answer, instead the lights flashed again and Skye found herself blinking back tears. While trying to find her way through the lights Skye thought she had seen something open up, and then the lights went to a dim and the whole room was suddenly filled with some kind of mist.
"I have to get out of here-" She goes to move but something is stopping her and when Skye looks down her feet are encased in some kind of rock that is slowly growing up her body.
Her right hand goes up to her com in panic trying desperately to get a single, but soon she can feel the rocks starting to grow across her hand. Skye's breath is loud and she screams for help but none comes.
Her whole world goes black.
When she finds awareness again her whole body feels like ts moving, a strange buzzing sensation that makes her ears ring and her muscles ache. Its everwhere and its getting worse, building until suddenly she feels a strange sensation - like something leaving from her body and the rest of the strange rocks fall away from her body, flying out in all different directions. She's in the middle of the room alone, its walls shaking and the stones cracking beneath her feet.
Skye realizes then that the building is collapsing all around her.
She moves to run butt he buzzing starts again and there's a sharp pain in the back of her head and her whole world goes black once again.
Skye slowly wakes up, her whole body still feeling like its buzzing but the sensation is bearable this time. She has no idea how long she's been out, but the sky is a murky grey and it takes her a moment to remember that the reason she can see the sky is because the roof of the building had been brought down around her.
Slowly she gets up, looking at the damage around her. In every direction there is destruction, like a bomb went off and Skye has no idea how the hell she is even alive to be looking at it. The other agents come into her mind and she makes her way through the wreckage, crawling her way up while calling out their names.
Whens she finds the crushed bodies of Cole and Kenedy Skye knows somehow that she was the only survivor.
Panting harshly at the edge of the now totaled HYDRA base, Skye thinks back to what the hell just happened, the buzzing in her body building up again, making her feel even more out of control like in the room she had been trapped in, and she feels the ground beneath her shake.
The ground beneath her shakes harder seemingly to go hand in hand with the panic attack Skye is sure she is having at the moment and she reaches for the Icer strapped to her thigh, the gun shaking in her hands. There's a click in her ear and she can here a worried voice asking her for a status update.
"- extraction..." Skye manages to say the word through her struggle and she closes her eyes tightly, and pulls the trigger.
