stumbled upon || joseph and kaliyo

The rains had stopped, finally, but that still left them with al the water left behind. But it meant Joseph could finally get real work done, once night fell, and it meant that the Safehouse was no longer on lockdown.
He moved to the front of the building, sidestepping beams of sunlight as he yawned and pushed past his lack of sleep to finally get to work on patching up the worst of the third ward. It was as he passed the front doors that he noticed an unfamiliar face and smell, which belonged to a person who he had never met nor seen around the Safehouse before. But based upon the letter in her hand, affixed with a broken wax seal he recognized as belonging to Miss Val, he realized she must have been a new tenant.
Deciding to offer her a hand he stepped forward as much as he dared, standing between sunbeams that came through the glass doors. “Hey, you must be a new tenant,” he said. “Must have taken you a while getting over here with the massive storm we had the last two days.” He paused. “For your sake, I hope you aren’t on the fourth ward.”
Weathering the Storm || Liam, Amos, & Daniel

Amos grumbled and cursed at no one in particular as his feet sloshed through the creeping inches of water covering the suite floor. It was a good thing he’d really only just arrived at the compound, he thought sarcastically; not enough time to unpack his suitcase so he could easily toss some assorted shit back in and move on out of his new home. Again.
At least it was only the threat of ruined books and wet clothes, this time.
He locked the room door behind him with a sigh and made for the stairs. Amos’ preternatural strength made the suitcase’s weight a non-issue, but there were still at least four flights to climb between him and the first ward apartment where he’d live until the storm blew over and maintenance could clear the water in the basement. He wondered if any Selkies or Afancs were currently living in the compound. They’d probably be having a ball right now.
Finally, he reached the top floor of the converted warehouse and, following a sign to turn a particular corner, started down the hall in search of suite one-oh-five.
One-oh-one, one-oh-two, one-oh-three... Amos heard another set of footsteps and looked up.
And stopped.
And blinked.
And frowned.
