Here’s a rant about my anti-vax mother.
So we recently had a small outbreak of mumps near the area of my university. This promted me to ask my mother whether I have had my MMR (mumps, measles and rubella) vaccine. Turns out I haven’t. I also haven’t had my meningitis vaccine because my mother didn’t allow me, if I were to get mumps not only would I suffer the more severe effects of it (people with the vaccine can still get it but they’ll suffer less) I could very much suffer complications and get meningitis. After I asked my mother she consistently told me to not get the jabs. She also told me that it’s my body and I can do whatever but she also PERSISTED that I don’t get the vaccines. A vaccine like the MMR and meningitis vaccines can LITERALLY save someone’s life. Yet my mother, an ex-nurse doesn’t understand that. And I am so mad at her because she goes and says shit like “well I didn’t have the vaccines and I didn’t get them” yh, okay but you’re not living in an area where multiple university students have been quarantined in their rooms because they have mumps. I feel like people need to become more educated, like severe effects to vaccines very rarely happen and if they do, they are dealt with rather quickly. I’m also waiting to hear back from the NHS to see whether I can get a GP where I’m currently living. Life is quite stressful 😂 just to add to shit my anti-vax mother has said, “they have really dangerous chemicals in the vaccine for preservatory purposes” yh no shit, there’s a tiny live (or dead) virus in there.
