QUICK TIP #1: GIVE YOUR COVER LETTER SOME PERSONALITY
I mentioned this in my last post, but I thought I would go into greater detail on exactly how to spice up your cover letter. The simple answer is to start with a less generic opening statement. Introduce yourself by sharing a unique fact about yourself. A silly reason that your passionate about the job you want to do. Think about how you talk about your passions out loud or to your friends and put that on paper.Another way to do it is to experiment with the format. What if you told a story about yourself in the third person? Maybe you could give a timeline of your life starting from the moment you figured out your “mission in life” to the moment you decided to apply for this particular job. How can you showcase some element of your skill/ talent within the span of a page? That is the question to use when determining what to put in your cover letter. It’s just as much (if not more) about who you are as what you can do. Show that you put time and effort into this letter, and make it as unique as you are.
