An exceptionally rare boxed example of a Médaille Électro-Magnétique from De Boyeres, out of Paris, France. A takeoff of the more common Boyd’s Battery we had here in the States, this #quack #amulet is #galvanic and #therapeutic in nature, playing off of theories of #animalmagnetism and early #battery and #electricity theory to cleanse the blood through alternating metals and body sweat, a combination that *will* produce the slightest of charges just like a #VoltaicPile, even though the manufacturers had a limited grasp on the still poorly understood theories of electricity of that age. Items like this are my my collecting radar because many planchette manufacturers in this era took advantage of the popularity of such devices to offer galvanic instruments capable of being charged with animal magnetism to more properly affect their performance, like the much-loved “Enchanting Medium” #planchette in my collection.
