I’ve been listening to a lot of serene dance music this year. The lockdown at the beginning of the year was sound-tracked by Bicep’s Isles, Sofia Kourtesis’s Fresia Magdelena, Octo Octa’s She’s Calling and Pauline Anna Strom’s Angel Tears in Sunlight. As things got a bit more back to normal over the summer, my music choices got a bit more energetic, turning to Elkka’s Euphoric Melodies, Doss’s 4 New Hit Songs, and Peggy Gou’s “I Go”.
I've been listening to a lot of kind of airy and spacious dance music over the past few months, of which Octo Octa's She's Calling and Sofia Kourtesis's Fresia Magdelena are two of my favourites.

A few weeks ago Octo Octa returned with a new single called "Find Your Way Home", the first taste of her upcoming EP, She's Calling. "Find Your Way Home" is an infectious house cut that evolves from glitchy funk breakbeats to a euphoric 4 on the flour beat propelled by glowing new age synth chords. The arrangements are then submerged beneath the mix while pitch shifted vocal snippets dart around each inch of the mix at erratic intervals. The initial drum loops eventually return to the mix alongside a plethora of added texture, including the aforementioned synths. There are a lot of sounds fighting for space within the mix, but Octo Octa keeps everything balanced throughout even the song's most chaotic movements.
The mixing throughout is just superb, and the transitions between the different movements are each executed with flawless precision. There are a lot of ideas throughout the course of "Find Your Way Home", but no matter where the composition pivots there aren't any motifs that overstay their welcome or derail things too much. Throughout the last few minutes "Find Your Way Home" blossoms into a groovy acid-house bounce that gets quite a bit of mileage out of squelchy synth arpeggios, thin hi-hat loops, and a blocky snare drum before everything slowly grinds to a halt. "Find Your Way Home" is another unpredictable, and exhilarating house song that showcases Octo Octa's remarkable range and versatility behind the boards.
