Today was the last day of our seed saving, nutrition and food security course. It was more lovely than I had imagined. I'm very proud of the lobbying I did to ensure that Kay would be there. When I was asked what I wanted to do with permaculture , my response was build strong communities. This has always been my endgoal. Whether that be through youth empowerment or racial liberation. I want to create for other people what my community gave me. A sense of self-worth, self respect, soul food that nurtured both my body and mind.  I'm just trying to figure out what I was put here to do. Though I'd love to run off somewhere and start a farm that will get me though "peak oil." What's the use of surviving without my culture? My fam and my friends? But besides that, I don't believe in all that. I'm not afraid of the future. Even though still I don't know my place in it. 

Today at the lunch table Kay and I were talking about the difference between faith and fear. In the decades that she has spent developing eco-villages, she's come to understand that people who flock to those communities because of fear can't seem to make it work. She said that faith in the universe  some will call it god, will take care of us is what brings people together in a real way. I reminded her of how true that statement was in the context of non-violent movements such as the Civil Rights Movement that I've been reading about. We both agreed that movements based on fear could not be sustained. It's the difference between the fear of frankenfood( GM) vs the valuation of what Kay likes to call regenerative agriculture.
