Optimus didn’t know what became of Sentinel after he stepped down as Magnus, let alone that Shamus existed until the mech was mentioned by Envoy during their Academy days
Two and two came together the moment Op laid eyes on Shamus without even pulling up his records
If Op and Rodi had met a kid Shamus, oh yeah they would have spoiled him w the same treats and goodies as he would their own son—but Sentinel kept Shamus homeschooled and away from public eyes as long as he could until he hit Academy age
If Shamus had more than Sentinel as a role model in his early childhood he would have been a lot better off emotionally and socially, hell no wonder he was an oddball in Academy already w his height and carefully hidden warframe traits—he also didn’t know how to like,,,socialize outside of ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir’ let alone how to act like the young adult he was
Envoy has a gift for picking out the loners in the crowd even w him being hella anxious himself, you KNOW that no matter how old he was Op would’ve been sure to send some of his own Sire’s signature goodies to Envoy. Shamus got a little taste of those treats from home kudos to Envoy when he could catch Shamus in rec!

Shamus is really not that good with words. He inherited his Sire’s soothing tone but not his suaveness
His way of flirting is more through action, and even then he’s still completely oblivious that he IS flirting
It’s little the things like a hand on Envoy’s arm, guiding him through a room, or even his habit sticking real near to Envoy’s side that kinda gave away Shamus’ interest
they’ll never get out of the bumbling awkward teen phase at this rate 😪
