I remember things that people say to me that have had an impact.
"A day without Shelby is like a day without sunshine." -A teacher said this about me when I was sick from class and came back.
"Blindness is a set back, but character is beauty and you are full of character." -The man I loved said this about me after saying I was beautiful and I called him blind.
"You're nice and all, but I didn't come back for you." -A drunk who likes to string me along.
"You're a monster." -The man I loved when he disagreed with my faith.
"I don't give a fuck anymore. I'm done [with you]." -My dad after I asked for help for college tuition.
"You are cute." -My dad, who has never told me I was pretty before.
"You aren't depressed, every one gets sad." -My sister while I was suicidal.
"I don't want them." -My dad in a letter to my Mom about my sisters and I, shortly after I was born.
"You have a lovely body." -Guy who strings me up.
"Good job!" -The hard-to-please manager at work who glares at everyone.
I don't know why, but these repeat in my head. I think about them a lot. It's weird how sentences from key people in your life can circulate in your mind. Some of them, I wish I could forget. Others, I love to remember.
