THAC0 seems to be the most reviled D&D mechanic of all time. Yes, THAC0 is a little bit clunky and its replacements are a little bit better, but I think there’s a deeper reason it’s so notorious. Roughly there are two clusters of DnD fans, theater kids and science club. THAC0 is science club coded and therefore THAC0 is evil and not just a rule that was improved.
