I will say Yue really dodge a bullet(temporarily) in most of her AUs. I'm pretty curious about the game timelines when Shanza dies by Macaque, leaving Yue at the mercy of LoES and LBD. Too bad he'll never realize that not only did he destroy what's left of his (good)family but he also had Yue become a host... Macaque really would have realize the consequences of his actions right up his face(parallel to Wukong).
If Macaque was met with the realization that he played a big part in hurting the only family he had left with his actions, it would be enough to send him over the edge.
Could you make a family tree/timeline specifically with Macaque, Shanzha, Yue, and the Zodiac Monkey? It doesn’t have to be polished, I’m just a bit confused to how they are all related. Like ZM is excited to be reunited with Shanzha because she’s his daughter, but not Macaque (who is his son then? I think? Is he not?). Shanzha is descended from their powerful ancestor (but not politically powerful at the beginning of the story) and is sisters with Yue’s mom (deceased) which is why Yue has six ears? Or is she Yue’s mom’s “husband’s” sister which is why the gene is passed down, it’s through the dad’s blood, and Shanzha has no political standing at the beginning because it went to her brother? I’m kind of confused about the Zodiac Monkey line familial connections.
That's understandable! A lot of things happened in the fic.
Here's the timeline/family tree of Yue's family:
Shanzha: my brother has a friend???? He trusts someone he doesn't have power over??? He seems happy??? He's less of an asshole?!?! (Random ffm monkey- "it's possible to be more of an asshole!?)
Shanzha is aghast. Her opinion of her eldest half-brother isn't the highest, but even she can admit that living in FFM has been good for him. It's good for her too. Yishan and Shanzha may never be the closest of siblings, but they're not at each other's throats.
He's still an asshole though. Case in point, this was their first interaction when they reunited after many years:
Yishan: Oh, you're still alive?
Shanzha: Well, f u too.
Macaque/rinrin/wukong would probably be a culture shock for Shanzha. Yeah her land has powerful demons with concubines, but I doubt any concubine is an equal in the relationship with love and respect (closest probably yue's parents, but that is probably not very healthy or equal)
Shanzha, like Yue, is so, so traumatized. There is so much culture shock - and it's not just the relationship dynamics. Since RinRin is all moony-eyed with Wukong's new concubine, everyone is kinder to her here and they are more open to hearing Shanzha out. It's a Hurt/Comfort genre when bringing Shanzha into the poly. It's a slow process.
Also, they know about Yue and want to stage a rescue mission, which puts the entire War Against Heaven on hold.
