You Were Something
Ilia Malinin/Mikhail Shaidorov | 8.3k words | rated M | archive locked
He reaches the door in three heavy steps and hesitates for a moment, his hand hovering over the handle indecisively. Ilia takes another steadying breath and yanks the door open. 'Dad, I told you I'm fine,' he starts to say even before he looks him in the eye, voice whinier than he intended. Frustration begins to boil inside him again. Can I have a minute alone, please? 'I just need a moment to myself to-' he pauses. 'You're not my dad.' Misha blinks at him. 'Um. No?' he says eventually and rocks back and forth on his feet. 'Can I-?' 'Why?' Ilia asks and immediately wants to hide his face in his hands. Misha laughs at him. 'I mean, why are you here?' he corrects himself, tripping over the simplest words in Russian. 'To see you,' Misha says simply and shrugs delicately, the laughter gone and replaced by uncertainty. 'Can I come in?'
WIP Wednesday Thursday
Thank you @lafaerie for the tag (i looved the snippet you shared) đź’™ I'm tagging @brawngp2009 @sietecastillos @reids-gf and @alboinz - and everyone else who wants to take part in this fun!
I have been working on a WIP for a while now, I am roughly halfway through, actually! Have a snippet here:
It's one of Ilia's rare days off when he doesn't have to get out of bed at the crack of dawn and can instead laze in bed for a while. He's got his phone in his hand already while he uses the other one to rub away the remnants of sleep from his eyes. Then, he grabs his glasses and starts to scroll through the avalanche of notifications. Most of them are irrelevant, some random group chats coming alive, a friend whose love language seems to be sending him memes at 3 AM, another friend's rambly voice memo recounting what Ilia assumes must've been a wild night out. He can listen to it over breakfast in a few minutes, but first, he wants to catch up on his Instagram DMs.
"congratulating mikhail wasn't about the results. it was about the shared journey we take as athletes. knowing that fans worldwide connected with that moment means more to me than any medal."
ilia and mikhail we acting hella gay for each other with that hug... bro it is not platonic to nuzzle the man who just beat your for olympic gold while telling him he deserves it. objectively a cute pairing but just very unexpected considering Ilia's history as a mildly homophobic straight™️, and obviously we don't know Mikhail's opinion on same sex relationships just that he is russian sooo probably not great
ilia's sensitivity training worked so well, it actually created a circle where it made him gay /j
that being said, they really are just dolls that i am smashing together!!! when you have the most epic crashout of your life and then you go and put your hand in your "opponent's" hair, cradling him and tucking him into your shoulder !!!! "you deserve it" and he shakes his head, but you make sure that NO he does. he does. you jostle him until he believes it!!!!!!
and then to put the cherry on top, you win a yaoi sportsmanship award for holding him with such love. it wasn't about the gold, it was about people connecting with that moment !!!!!!!!

Your picture, double-tap
Ilia Malinin/Mikhail Shaidorov | 27.3k words | Chapter 4/4 | rated E | archive locked
His phone lights up again with a new notification. mikhail_shaidorov replied to your story: cute 'What the fuck?' Ilia asks, perhaps a bit too loudly. He taps on the banner and… 'Oh, okay.' It's a reply to a video of Misty he posted earlier and not… Well. Anyway. He looks to the side for a second and then opens up his camera. Without thinking too much about it, he snaps a picture of glaring Mysti and sends it to Misha. You sent a photo. Not so cute in the mornings. Still, he tilts the phone towards Mysti. 'See this? Misha thinks you're cute,' he says in a soft voice and reaches out to pet her. He gets a smack to his face for his trouble. mikhail_shaidorov: no, still very cute Ilia rolls his eyes, feeling strangely fond, and types a reply. She just smacked me in the face! That's NOT cute! He watches the typing bubble appear and disappear a couple of times before the reply finally comes through. mikhail_shaidorov: probably deserved it))
Looking through the glass
Ilia Malinin/Mikhail Shaidorov | 9.4k words | rated E | archive locked | Part 2 in the Tamagotchi series, immediate sequel to Your picture, double-tap
The moment he leans in and closes the distance between them, he knows he's going to hate himself for it later. Still, Mikhail closes his eyes and does it, and he has a thousand excuses ready as to why he did it. He did it because Ilia just kept talking and he had to make him shut up. Because they were already standing so close that he could feel his breath on his face. Because he said "I'm sorry." Because he looked angry and upset. Because he said "please." He does it, and later, he will lie to himself that he had hoped it would be one of those kisses that are nothing more than a violent clash of lips and teeth, over before they even began.

Feeling disappointed, he looks down at his phone and checks the time again. It's 7:23 now and his phone is at 11%. Fuck. 'Ilia?' asks a polite voice coming from far too close for his liking. Jesus Christ, Ilia snaps his head back up and ends up face-to-face with the guy he just watched get out of the car. Shocked, Ilia lets go of the suitcase's handle so quickly that it almost topples over. The guy catches it before it clatters to the ground. 'Yes?' Ilia says, and then realises it makes him look like he doesn't know his own name. 'I mean, yes, I am,' he rushes to add as he reclaims his suitcase from the stranger's hands. 'Are you-? You're Mikhail, right?' 'Misha, please,' the guy nods and offers him a slightly nervous smile. 'I'm really sorry I'm late. I, uh,' he clasps his hands together in a gesture that looks like a practised way of keeping his anxieties at bay. 'I sent you an email that I'm running late-' 'Oh,' Ilia sighs and finally feels his shoulders relax. So, this wasn't a scam, he thinks as a relieved smile makes its way onto his face.
