On July 9, 2025, Hamas agreed to release 10 Israeli hostages—a move that shocked many and stirred hopes for peace. But behind this decision lay strategic demands: full Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza, humanitarian access, and a long-term ceasefire agreement. While former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism, the reality on the ground told a grimmer story—74 Palestinians killed in a single day of Israeli airstrikes, collapsing hospitals, and mounting international pressure.

Despite heavy casualties, Hamas retains leverage through remaining hostages, while Israel stays firm on its military objectives. The future remains uncertain: will this gesture lead to sustained peace or just a temporary pause in the ongoing chaos? The answer may lie less in politics and more in the shared human toll of the conflict.

“Almost every day, we defend our skies against Russian missiles and drones. Just last night, Ukraine was attacked by 103 Shahed drones, which contained 8,755 foreign-made components. Over the past week, Russia has used more than 630 strike drones, approximately 740 guided aerial bombs, and nearly 50 missiles of various types – totaling over 50,000 sanctioned components sourced from around the world.

“The sanctions pressure on supply chains for foreign components remains insufficient. Russia continues to acquire the components and manufacturing tools it needs – almost globally – and uses them in the weapons it employs to terrorize Ukraine.

“We must continue strengthening cooperation with all our partners on sanctions, air defense systems, long-range weapons, and support for our warriors. These priorities will help protect our cities, villages, and positions on the frontline. #Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost . . . Russia launched close to 190 missiles, 140 Shahed drones, and 700 aerial bombs at Ukraine over the last week, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening address on March 24.

The president noted that restoration work is underway following a large-scale attack on energy infrastructure on March 22.

Electricity supply has been restored to citizens in some regions following the attack which left 1.5 million people without power. More than 200,000 homes remain without stable power in the city of Kharkiv and one district in Kharkiv Oblast, Zelenksy said.

Russian forces targeted over 130 energy infrastructure facilities on March 21-22 and critically damaged one of the stations of the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant, Ukraine’s largest hydroelectric station.

Zelensky thanked all of Ukraine’s defense and security forces for their efforts to protect Ukraine.

During the night of Feb. 10, 2024, Ukraine was subjected to a Russian attack employing 31 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs from the temporarily occupied Crimea and the territory of the Russian Federation. Ukrainian forces managed to destroy 23 Shahed drones within the Odesa and Kharkiv regions.

Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that the Shahed kamikaze drone strikes caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure in Kharkiv. Fifteen residential homes were engulfed in flames, leading to large-scale fires.

Tragically, the Russian attacks claimed seven lives, including two children, 7 and 4 years old, and an infant of 6 months old. Additionally, three persons sustained injuries, but more than 50 people were rescued from the affected areas.

On Dec. 13, 2023, a Russian missile attack on Kyiv at 3 a.m. local time left 53 injured, including eight children, said Mayor @vitaliyklitschko via his official Telegram channel. At least 20 were hospitalised, including two children, while the rest received treatment on the scene.

Ukraine’s Air Force - @air.force.ua.official shot down all 10 ballistic missiles launched at Kyiv, as well as 10 Shahed drones, nearly all of which were downed over the Odesa region.

According to Klitschko, the Russian attack on Kyiv damaged a high-rise residential building, two private houses, a kindergarten, a hospital, and several cars.
