The growling butterfly beast’s wings curled around itself like a cocoon. It hung from the ceiling in the darkness of Cardinal’s bedroom. With sharp teeth and claws and a long, leathery tail, Ormad’s true form seemed mindless, and purple saliva dropped onto the foot of Cardinal’s bed. (themanofgloom)

Cardinal looked up at the creature, breathing so fast and so hard that it did no good for her. Her vision blurred with tears as she began to whimper, a long, scratchy whine pulling itself from her throat.
The Fledgling stirred, but it too seemed to be frozen, it’s eyes overtaking hers with heat-seeking vision, staring at Ormad. Cardinal’s breathing slowed, as she tried to figure out just what this monster in her room was. He had a warm core, orange and yellow, but everything else was blue and purple, shadows spilling out across the ceiling in splashes of ice-cold black and dark blue.
She slowly pulled herself up, the Fledgling’a curiosity beginning to outweigh her fear. She reached a hand out, feeling the Fledgling hesitate and coil beneath her skin. Carefully! its senses warned her, Predator! Danger! Curious, but don’t touch!
Cardinal snapped her hand back, swallowing down the Fledgling’s hiss. “...Ormad?” She whispered, sleep and fear scratching out the edges of her voice.
