A picture of Zlatomir’s Dark shift got a lot of unexpected attention over at my BlueSky, so that inspired me to throw together this chibi of him! He’s not too happy about the attention, but he has no say.
I hope you don't mind fanart! I just love Zlatomir, his design is so satisfactory and his character really feels *real* to me, what a fascinating man! I hope I did him justice :]

Old but glorious art made by @sundiessoon I just felt like sharing how Taffy's whole True form looks like because I've never drawn her full glory, only as a chibi, and the world needs to know her elegance!
Some fun facts about her!
She's based off cheetahs, and of course chirps as one.
Her powers (along with her two brothers who together form triplets) are based of the Fates and weaves, attaches and cuts connections between others and herself. This is done literally with golden thread that she ties to people's hearts and her own.
Pulling heart stings is also a literal thing with her.
Threads weaves thicker as connections become stronger, and tear when weakened.
Has therefore a web of connections, and thus gives her additional spider to her vibes, hence the eight legs.
She can hide her eyes in her fur, and mostly stays hidden.
Her human shell may be shrimp sized, but she's actually stupidly tall.

This is a very good question, thanks for asking! I don't think I've ever talked about it before beyond with @sundiessoon but it will require lore exposition.
In short, this image:
First, consider shadows as a type of matter that Shadow beings can manipulate. Their bodies are made of shadows and they can't have limbs amputated because they just attach more shadows to renew it.
Then, pure bred Shadow beings (born as one) can "camouflage" shadow surfaces into a natural material. Taffy can turn shadows into gold. That's why Dernee is a city made of gold, and her sister Maddie turns the city to eggshell when she takes power. Shadow beings that were once human does not have this ability.
Zlatomir's theme is carbon. He can't camouflage shadows into carbon because he was a human, but his Smoker (humanoid) and True (feral) forms are carbon based. His skin has the texture, smell and density of charcoal. His powers are based on asphyxiation and charcoal is carbon deprived of oxygen while heat treated. His visor is compressed carbon (symbolising the mental and physical pressure he's been under) and turned into a diamond.
A diamond visor is his natal face.
Gold means the world to Taffy, it's her comfort and safety. And Zlatomir is her mate and they share an unbreakable bond. She turned his face golden to mark him out of pure adoration because he's hers and she's his. It's by insane chance that "Zlato" means gold in Croatian, because both him and Taffy were created before me and my partner knew of each other. And with his name, she also turns his visor golden so that he can bear his own name as a physical part of him.

What does zlat sound like in his monster form?? does he chirp?
Thanks for the ask! This is going to be abstract to explain, so I'll do my best.
His Smoker/ dark shift form (humanoid): His speech sounds close to when he's human, but the mechanism to speak is different from a human. The voice doesn't travel through his throat, but instead out of his chest because his petals are what he breathes with and is what controls his voice. There is a slight echo to his voice, and a faint, rustling whistle to this echo. The petals also move to his voice, rustle sharply when he huffs or sighs.
His true form (feral birdy raptor): To other true forms, he speaks and sounds just like mentioned above. He, like others in this form, cannot comprehend human speech nor does he sound human to actual humans or Smokers. What others instead hear is mostly silence, the rustling of the petals, and that faint whistle that echoes deep in his chest. He does not chirp, though some flutters of the petals can be interpreted as chirps. He can clatter the teeth of his lower jaw against the metal visor of his upper jaw, which is something he does as an intimidation display. In severe distress, panic or pain, he can "shriek", and it sounds absolutely godawful. Like rusty, jagged metal scraping against metal. It's shrill, ear-piercing and probably worse than dragging a fork on a blackboard surface.
