SG Diaries: 12/17
It was my first time to GrabHitch last night. I used grab in the Philippines but justgrab, not hitch. You by the way need to book ahead, like 10mins from your pick-up time. From Jurong West, I dropped by Jurong Point to top up my 0.86 ez card balance. I checked on how much will it cost me... Both from West or Jurong Point, my bill is 12S$ but I need to top up my card first so I went to Jurong Point anyway. There I waited for my hitch in the Taxi stand. My driver was indian-looking(though he said he’s SIngaporean, born in Singapore). He made me talk a lot like I normally do.
He was funny though, and he know some Tagalog and 1 bisaya word. Said he traveled to Philippines, in Bulacan, for a 10-day trip for work and grabhitch is not his main job. I noticed when we were near our destination, he started looking into my eyes and told me I had a brown one. He actually let me set beside him when I usually sit at the back, well which I still did because he said I need to tell him the way. It was pretty awkward (yes) but I tried to just live the ride hoping to jump out soon. Finally we arrived at the HDB, and he wanted me to take his personal number, even offered to pick me up from HDB back to my place since its night time already, which I just laughed about. After the party, I tried to book a grabhitch around 11 and it was still him. Then he messaged me confirming my pick up time. It freaks me out, like he confirmed really soon, within a minute after I booked, I guess. I havent checked if hes married or what, but it just freaks me out. Are there no other grabhitch driver in town? I appreciated the offer though, but again it is night time and I dont want to make close connection to a neighbor, yes which by the way he said he’s just block away, literally, me at 22, he at 21 which freaks me out some more.
When he confirmed my booking back to my place, the memories were popping while we were driving our way to my friend’s HDB, when he said we can go to Marina Barrage and he can take beautiful pictures of me and that I can always contact him if I want to go somewhere, want to do something, or try eating new foods and try other things we can do in SG. That was a good invitation, yuh, but not for a total stranger right? So I canceled by grabhitch booking back home and opted to take a bus; 3 buses with 2stops-47stops-6stops. I was more comfortable with the long ride though.
I now end up wondering what’s with indian guys, not that Im being racist or something.. I really just wanna know and understand why since I have lots of encounter with flirting indian guy around even when I dont look. I tried to recall my experiences and remembered one, when we were at Bukit Timah trek where I smiled to an indian guy who smiled at me, Im a Filipinio(yes thats a disclaimer. haha), what do you expect... Im like, should I snob? Its just a smile though. Because after that, he kept on looking and smiling so I decide to just snob and not look and not mind. What I got from googling about how-indians-flirt? I end up to an article that made me understand indian men in general. So I guess its my call. Next time not to be friendly, not the usual Pinoy me, with stranger indian men.
