there's so much imaginative play about being an astronaut, or an alien, or a scientist who's studying outer space, or getting sucked into a black hole
Phoebe's favourite comfort item is her alien stuffy, Gorb
she's always drawing new planets and new aliens and rocket ships of all different shapes and sizes and colours
Lucy and Julien took so much time and effort to make her room at their house feel special - glow-in-the-dark stars and space-themed stuffed animals. they're the ones who bought her her astronaut helmet which almost never comes off
Julien also bought an incredibly expensive telescope and set it up on the back deck, and she and Phoebe like to look up at the night sky together. The three of them also regularly drive out into the hills to go stargazing away from the lights of the city
Lucy is really Phoebe's main caregiver because more often than not, Phoebe being small will trigger Julien dropping into her own littlespace.
Phoebe adores her little sibling and takes great pride in being a big brother. She loves to play with Julien, even though Julien doesn't always fully understand the imaginative play. She likes to teach Julien things about space and hear her little sibling ramble about dinos and sharks in response.
Phoebe's a very high-energy kid, and when she gets together with Naomi and Jo the chaos is at least tripled if not more
She's pretty comfortable with Katie when Katie's big, but when Katie's small they tend to terrorize each other because they both want control

Naomi is her main little one, but Katie is perfectly happy to jump in and care for any of the littles
the littles all call her Kaykay or just Kay
she's like the fun auntie - she'll let the kiddos paint her nails or do her hair and she'll absolutely take everyone out for ice cream
She can read Naomi like a book even though they don't talk much
she knows to keep an eye on Jo because she might wander off
she's always got some new game to play with Phoebe
she'll happily spend quiet time reading to / with Julien
she's so in tune with Lucy and always gives her the space to talk about what she's feeling. For example, sitting and colouring with her, listening intently while Lucy explains that sometimes she feels more like a girl and sometimes she feels more like a boy and that's okay because not everybody feels like one thing all the time.
she's also very good at keeping Lucy calm if she feels like she's made a mistake.
She's just generally very good with all of the littles in a one-on-one context
in groups it's a little harder to keep track of everyone's needs and she can get overwhelmed if too many people need something from her at the same time
Jo and Naomi have a very partners-in-crime type of dynamic when they're both small
they get into so much mischief
Katie knows to check on them if they're being too quiet because they're probably up to something they shouldn't be
Jo talks for Naomi a lot, and Katie often has to remind them that just because Jo wants something doesn't mean Naomi wants the same thing
They do get into arguments occasionally, usually over silly things like whose turn it is to pick the movie for movie night (Naomi always picks Spiderman and Jo gets "boooorrrrreeeeddddd")
and Katie is actually awful at resolving such arguments (she just wants both her babies to be happy and isn't great at coming up with alternative solutions), but they usually work it out in a couple minutes by themselves
Julien's regression stems from a mix of religious trauma and neurodivergence, and thus she is her least religious and most autistic when regressed
she's pretty quiet when she's small, unless she's talking about dinosaurs and sharks, which are her very favourite things to learn about
most of her communication is via shark/dinosaur facts, or through one of her many, many stuffed animals. For example, if she puts her headphones on her shark stuffy, Lucy knows she's overstimulated
Her very favourite stuffy is her puppy lovey, Rigby. honourable mentions are Lil Pup and her deer from the tour in 2024. most of the others are dinosaurs and sharks
she struggles with imaginative play, far preferring repetitive and systematic play where she lines up or sorts her toys. she also likes to colour and draw, but she also experiences fine motor skill regression when she's small, so she doesn't usually have the dexterity of her adult self and can get upset when her art doesn't turn out
her sensory issues get a lot worse when she's small, leading to problems with identifying her emotions (which tend to feel a lot bigger and more overwhelming when she's small) as well as with how her body is feeling (leading to the occasional toileting accident which embarrasses her greatly)
Lucy is her mommy and her safest person. If she happens to be regressed at the same time, she's "Yucy" and Julien's big sibling.
Phoebe is "Phee Phee" or "Phee bee" and Julien's favourite aunt or best big brother. There's nothing Phoebe wouldn't do for her little sibling, and Julien looks up to her so much.
Naomi and Jo are both less safe people for little Julien. she's not always sure how to act around them and they can be unpredictable in headspace. but Naomi will listen to her ramble about sharks and Jo gives really good hugs, so she supposes they're alright.
Katie is the only person other than Lucy and Phoebe that Julien feels genuinely safe with when she's small. She listens when Julien rambles and she's very good at making Julien laugh. When Katie's small, Julien can get jealous of how much attention Lucy gives her, and vice versa, but Lucy is good at reassuring them both that she has enough love and attention to go around.
Okay you're getting this one because I don't think I'll ever finish it.
Road Trip
· · â ·â¶Â· â · ·
Theyâre on a road trip. Julienâs dad had asked if they were coming home for Easter and Julien had agreed, and Lucy had suggested a road trip and sheâd agreed to that, too.Â
Sheâs regretting it now.Â
Theyâd stopped at a diner somewhere near Needles for lunch a couple hours earlier, which was fine - the atmosphere had been nice and the food had been mediocre - but Julien has spent the last half hour feeling increasingly nauseous, and sheâs starting to think itâs probably more than just motion sickness.Â
âLucy, do we have Gravol?â she asks through gritted teeth when the winding highway leaves her stomach gurgling unpleasantly.Â
âMmâŠâ her girlfriend shrugs in the backseat. âIâll check.â
âWhat, you nauseous?â Phoebe asks, glancing over from the driverâs seat of her honda civic as Julien nods in affirmation.Â
âI donât think lunch agreed with me,â she murmurs, hands fisted in the absolutely enormous hoodie sheâs wearing (itâs one of Lucyâs. Probably).Â
Lucy passes her the Gravol and Julien brings it to her mouth with trembling hands, downs it with a swig of water from Phoebeâs bottle, and tries to ignore the feeling of her stomach twisting itself into knots.Â
Another hour after that, sheâs not faring any better. In fact, on top of the nausea pulsing in her gut, her head is pounding and her whole body is trembling, overheated and achy.Â
âI feel gross,â she whispers, when they reach a rest stop and Lucy asks if sheâs coming as Phoebe runs for the bathroom. âLike, I think I might throw up.âÂ
âWell, nowâs a good time to do it, I guess,â Lucy shrugs. âWeâre literally at a bathroom.âÂ
Julien shrinks in on herself in the passenger seat, trying not to cry with how awful she feels. âI wonât do it in a shitty trucker bathroom,â she murmurs, âI refuse to puke in a toilet thatâs barely more than an outhouse.âÂ
âFair enough,â Lucy shrugs again, and turns to follow Phoebe into the bathroom. Julien takes another Gravol while she waits for them to return.Â
After another 20 minutes on the road, Julienâs feeling absolutely miserable. The winding highway leaves her hunching over and whimpering, clutching her stomach as if that will help the waves of utter yuck sloshing around inside her. Phoebe drives slowly, glancing over at her in concern every time she lets out a soft whine of nauseated embarrassment, and Lucy reaches over the seat to rub her shoulder gently.Â
âIf you need us to pull over, let us know, okay?â She tells her, âit might take a second to find a place.â Julien nods, and then her eyes roll shut as her stomach lurches violently.
Itâs a mere five minutes later that Julien whispers a soft, âokay, maybe pulling over would be a good idea,â because sheâd be an idiot to spend another moment ignoring the pressure building against her epiglottis.Â
Phoebe curses softly under her breath. âWe just passed a place to pull off, like, thirty seconds ago,â she explains. âShould I speed up to get to the next one sooner, or slow down to try to avoid⊠yâknow.â she gestures vaguely at Julien, who nods.Â
âUh, slow, I think.â Julienâs not sure sheâll be able to avoid disaster if Phoebe speeds up. At least with the slow pace theyâre going now, they have a hope of making it off the highway before her control completely crumbles.Â
They almost make it.Â
Julien can see the turn-off when it happens, less than a minute down the road, but she suddenly canât breathe as her stomach twists violently, and she gags hard against the back of her hand.Â
âDo not throw up in my car-â Phoebe warns, but itâs too late. Julienâs throat bobs and her stomach constricts, and then sheâs vomiting into her lap.
It burns as she coughs it up, and then it stinks when it hits her jeans, and she blinks rapidly against the tears welling in her eyes. âIâm sorry,â she murmurs. Her stomach gurgles.Â
I am currently plagued by a stomach bug so I did the logical thing and projected my feelings onto boygenius
mild tw for emetophobia
Headcanons below the cut :)
How I think they'd each act when the others are sick + how I think they'd act when sick themselves:
Phoebe:
if Lucy or Julien are sick, Phoebe is right by their side through the whole thing
probably with wayyyy more meds than necessary
she fusses in a way thatâs sweet but a little overbearing: âare you sure youâre warm enough? I can get you another blanket. Or two. Or three. How about I just bring them all?â and âLet me just check your temperature again. I know you already took the Tylenol, but what if it hasnât come down? I feel like if your temperature doesnât come down with Tylenol, youâre supposed to go to the hospital or something.â
sheâs somehow a clingy caregiver
however, the second that thereâs even a chance someone might be vomiting?
sheâs as far away as humanly possible as fast as humanly possible
big emetophobe vibes
she has definitely called Lucy mid-panic attack like âJulien threw up and I think sheâs fine but I need you to come home because I canât breatheâ
and being stuck on the tour bus overnight with a concussed Lucy was basically her worst nightmare
itâs not even that sheâs scared sheâll get sick, itâs just that another personâs vomit is the biggest sensory ick on the planetÂ
but once itâs over sheâs right there to reassure them that she still loves them and sheâs sorry they arenât feeling well
if Phoebe is clingy when sheâs caring for the others, itâs nothing compared to how she is when sheâs the one whoâs sickÂ
she will tuck herself into Lucy or Julienâs laps and say, âI donât feel good,â more times than they can count
she also just gets really pouty and whiny
within a day of getting sick she will take over the entire living room with tissues and a blanket nest and various meds and thermometers and probably a trash can âjust in caseâ
sheâs also throwing the used tissues halfheartedly at the trash can and not bothering to pick them up when she misses
Phoebe only ever naps when she's sick
I can see her being the type of person to take medical advice from Tiktok, but only half remember it and then refuse to look it up to fact-check
she also seems like someone who would drag it out, and a simple cold can mean not leaving the house for a weekÂ
basically, she takes being sick as an opportunity to be babied
however, if she has a show to play? That shit is getting done, no matter how sick she feels (case in point: shitting herself onstage because of food poisoning once, and having a trash can in the wings just in case she needed to vomit another time)
Phoebe's "I don't feel good" pout / going to Julien for cuddles and to mumble about how gross she feels:
Julien:
Julien basically has a âsick person checklist" in her brain that she follows whenever the others are sick
like sheâs gonna make one trip to the pharmacy + grocery store and come back with absolutely everything they could possibly need
including ingredients to make homemade soup
sheâs going to make sure that whoeverâs sick keeps their food and fluid intake up
she also double and triple checks everything - thermometer batteries, med schedules, the most effective way to treat each and every symptomâŠÂ
sheâs also very realistic about what is going to go away on its own in a couple days and what is hospital-worthyÂ
she might still panic a little if someone starts throwing up (mostly because thereâs really nothing she can do or say that will make it feel better) but even then, sheâs prepared
because Julien is the type of person to have a stack of hospital-grade emesis bags stashed away in the back corner of some closet (itâs the acid reflux)
and at night sheâll do the whole glow-stick-in-a-trash-can hack to make sure nobody makes a mess
she takes cleaning duties very seriously - both in the aftermath of someone throwing up and with germs in generalÂ
as soon as a person starts to feel better, things are getting sanitized
sheâs not always the best at empathizing - a lot of her script is just, âIâm sorryâ
but sheâs going to make sure they have what they need at any hour of the day or night.Â
and physical touch is absolutely her love languageÂ
like she has definitely toted around a sick, sleepy Phoebe in a piggyback before
and sheâll drop 100 kisses to Lucyâs forehead no matter how high her fever is
Julien just genuinely loves taking care of her boysÂ
but when sheâs the one whoâs sick?
she refuses to even acknowledge it until she runs herself to the ground
case in point: trying to return to the stage after fully throwing up at Webster HallÂ
first of all, she has the worst immune system of the three, so if either of the others are sick, Julien is pretty much guaranteed to catch whatever they have
second, she has an uncanny ability to make a little cold into something that leaves her bed-ridden for a solid week and a half just because she didnât want to accept that she was sick.Â
like sheâll try to push through a sore throat and end up losing her voice completely
or sheâll make herself physically sick before she bothers to take a break from whateverâs stressing her out
part of it comes from feeling like a burden if she asks for help
part of it is a lack of interoception leading to a genuine struggle to realize that sheâs starting to feel sick until itâs too late
for example, despite her stash of emesis bags, sheâs the king of thinking she doesn't need one until it's too late and she's already throwing up on the floor or in bed or on herself
vomiting inevitably makes her panic about making a mess and try to apologize, which usually has Lucy and Phoebe gently reassuring her that itâs okay, theyâre not mad
being sick also brings out her mean streak
sheâll get upset about feeling weak and try to tell Lucy or Phoebe that she doesnât need their help, but it comes out as âI donât want you here, leave me aloneâ
which Phoebe will react to with something equally snarky, and Lucy will shut down with an arch of her eyebrow and a âthatâs not very kindâÂ
but if sheâs really feeling awful, Julien seeks them out for cuddles
sheâs known to tuck herself into either of the other's side and bury her face in their neck, because she feels the most safe when sheâs being held by them
skin-to-skin to bring a fever down is peak no matter who is sick, in Julienâs opinion.
The exact way Julien tucks herself into Lucy when she finally admits that she's sick:
Lucy:
Lucyâs a very involved caregiver
sheâll sit and read to whoever is sick, make them cups of tea and chicken soup, and of course come up with an elaborate way of keeping track of which meds they can take and when
sheâs also very good at tailoring her caregiving to whoever is sick
if itâs Phoebe, sheâll sit and snuggle her for as long as Phoebe wants, and if she needs to get up to do something, sheâll leave a bell so Phoebe can call for her
Phoebe also thrives on verbal reassurance and words of comfort, so Lucy makes an effort to coo over how miserable she looks and how uncomfortable she must feel
if itâs Julien, Lucyâs settling herself in the same room because Julien will try to get up and do things unless Lucy jumps in to do it for her
Lucy has also discovered that some gentle empathy paired with an offer of tangible help is the most effective in dealing with Julienâs stubbornnessÂ
she knows that Phoebe wants to feel cared for, and Julien wants to feel capable of caring for herself. Phoebe wants to give up control, Julien very much does not.
either way, whoever is sick feels very cared for and loved by Lucy
Lucy has the best immune system of all of them, so she doesn't get sick very often and recovers quickly when she does
when she does come down with something, she accepts that sheâs sick with little fuss and doesnât make a big deal out of feeling under the weather
where Phoebe will complain until someone gets her what she needs and Julien will try to get it herself, Lucy doesnât hesitate to ask for help when she needs it
this extends to like, bringing her another cup of tea, or a fresh box of Kleenex, or a bucket if sheâs really feeling awful
but for the most part, sheâs perfectly happy to spend a couple of days curled up in bed with a book and a mug of tea, and wonât ask for anything sheâs genuinely capable of handling herself
for example, sheâs organizing her own meds schedule and probably managing to haul herself to the kitchen for cheese and crackers or a bowl of soup every now and then
sheâll even clean up after herself if she has a stomach bug - though sheâll probably call Julien in for cuddles in the aftermath
plus, Lucy prides herself on never having thrown up anywhere other than a toilet, trash can, bowl, or bag, so itâs not like thereâs ever much to clean up
just like Julien, itâs when sheâs really not feeling well that her clingy side comes out
fevers are the absolute pinnacle of discomfort to Lucy, and her favourite thing is when someone sits with her and gently rubs a cool cloth over her forehead and cheeks and across the back of her neck.
she likes being read to when she's sick, too, and will fall asleep with her head in Julien's lap given the opportunity
The slump that says she really doesn't feel well / the "I just threw up again, please come cuddle me" selfie she sends to Julien:
on the not-so-odd occasion that they're all sick at the same time, Lucy generally tries to take care of herself as well as she can in order to take the best care of her boys
Julien and Phoebe can easily get on each others' nerves but as soon as Lucy admits to not feeling well they're both doting on her too much to care how gross the other one is being
they often end up either cuddled together in bed, or sprawled across opposite ends of the living room and tossing bottles of cold meds + boxes of Kleenex to one another because none of them want to get up
in all, they're really good at taking care of each other in the ways that count

Itâs only as her lips make contact with searing-hot skin that Phoebe puts two and two together.
âOh.â She pulls back, surprised. âThatâs a fever.â
aka
Phoebe has severe emetophobia and Julien gets sick while staying over at her house
Hi bee!! Okay so ever since you posted those bg sick headcanons Iâve been thinking about MUNA sick headcanons as wellâŠ
I think if Katie is the one caring for someone sick sheâd be so doting. Lots of cooing and âaw poor babyâ. I feel like sheâd spoil a sick person and go to the store for medicine and come back with every other comforting item she could possibly be find. You know sheâs getting a little witchy with it too. Sheâs like âhereâs some Advil, also here is some tea I made with herbs from my garden, and here are my crystals that I just charged under the moon.â And Naomi and Jo are like đ€š but humor her anyway
If Katie is sick I feel like sheâs so pouty and clingy. She needs princess treatment! Draping herself across Naomi or Joâs lap and saying âI donât feel goooodâ until they stroke her hair. I feel like if sheâs really sick she could get a little emotional too. Like just pouting with tears in her eyes when she has a fever so Jo and Naomi have to cuddle her even though theyâre complaining that sheâs radiating so much heat⊠sheâs just too princess for people to say no to
When Naomi is caring for a sick person I think theyâd be a little anxious, worried that something is seriously wrong, worried that they arenât doing a good job taking care of said sick person, etc. but I also think theyâd be able to read and adapt to the needs of the sick person pretty quickly. Katie needs a hug? On it. Jo wants to be silent and watch tv? Say less.
When Naomi is sick themselves I feel like theyâd try to downplay it or maybe insist that they can take care of themself just because they donât want to inconvenience anybody. And Katie has to remind them that just because they CAN take care of themself doesnât mean they have to! So eventually Naomi admits how miserable they feel and they let Katie fuss over them and Jo make them some soup.
You know Jo basically becomes a doctor when someone else is sick. I feel like their medicine cabinet is basically an arsenal and is very well-organized. They have every solution for every ailment possible. Sheâs checking temps and administering meds like sheâs an expert. And you know sheâs making a big vat of homemade soup. I think she could a little Too Doctor Like sometimes lol and need gentle reminders to also be more caring. when she goes in to check Katieâs temp again Katie frowns and is like âyou have to give me a hug first.â Or Naomi is like âjust come sit with me for a bit.â
When Jo is sick they want to be left the hell alone for the most part. Sheâs grumpy and wants to be bundled under blankets watching tv and spacing out. If sheâs feeling really miserable sheâll accept some company and some help but she doesnât wanna be touched more than necessary and she doesnât really wanna talk. But they are grateful for the silent companionship and someone bringing them food and drinks and meds.
Okay I think thatâs it for now⊠thoughts? Hehe
YES
This is all so accurate oh my God
Katie WOULD get witchy with it but also be giving them the Advil! Sheâs definitely a home remedies type of guy but recognizes that Jo and Naomi are not, and sheâs not going to force them to be in pain.
And yeah obviously Princess Katie gets what she wants when sheâs sick. Like theyâre bringing her a cup of tea or something and she just looks up at them with the biggest eyes and says âstay?â And who are they to say no? Sheâs also definitely falling asleep on them both throughout the day.
Naomi being anxious makes so much sense. Theyâre in the corner looking up symptoms and trying to decide whether they should go to the hospital yet.
And yeah, definitely an âI can do it myselfâ type of guy. Iâm imagining that Katie finds them trying to wipe off the toilet seat they just threw up on while actively gagging and is like âokay, thatâs enough. Let me do it. Youâre just gonna make an even bigger mess.â And Naomi just starts crying because they feel so rotten and thank God Katieâs there.
Josette đ€ Julien - autism rizz when someone is sick
No but for real, Joâs like setting timers to remind Katie to take meds and when the timer goes off sheâs going to get the Tylenol without even asking Katie if she needs another painkiller first. And Katie just tugs on their arm and says, âhey, Iâm good. Come cuddle.â And Joâs like âbut I already reset the timer???â
Jo is me about being sick. Leave us tf aloneeee. Like they will text Naomi asking them to bring her a fresh glass of water and Naomi comes in all âheyyy, how you feeling?â And Jo just. Glares. But if they wanna sit and watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy in silence with her? Sure.
if you posted 8 million sickfics I'd name my firstborn after you they are my all time fav of any fanfiction EVER especially as a girly with a bad immune system (I've had covid 6 times even tho im vaccinated for it)
This is so real of you I am the Same.
To be real only one of the 8 million is actually complete to the point of being postable (below the cut đ) but mayhaps if it gets enough love I'll consider posting some of my favourite snippets from the others...
Tuesday
· · â ·â¶Â· â · ·
Julienâs in the kitchen washing dishes and dancing around to some Shania Twain song on her Bluetooth speaker when Mackenzie texts her.Â
Hey, new song for your consideration! This oneâs heavy so I wonât even be a little upset if youâre not comfortable putting it on the album. Think it fits the vibe, though.
Julien taps into the attached file, titled, simply, âTuesday.â
She presses play.Â
The demo is just Mackenzieâs soft voice backed by a quiet acoustic guitar, as most of the demos sheâs sent have been, and Julien pauses her work as the first verse begins, giving the song her full attention.
Itâs sweet. At first itâs a song about falling in love, about being grateful for those who choose to love you in return, and Julien smiles softly as she thinks about Mariah. Her mind drifts briefly to Lucy, though she shakes the thought before she has a reason to feel guilty.Â
The chorus hits like a gut punch. âNow I wish that I hadnât stepped down and lied,â Mackenzie croons, and Julien sucks in a deep breath. She grips the counter behind her to steady herself, a little dizzy with how blunt her friendâs words are. They hit like daggers as Julien psyche drudges up memories of her teenage self, trying desperately not to read into the feelings she had towards her female friends. By the time the second verse starts, sheâs already fighting back tears.Â
Of course, verse two is somehow even more raw. It feels like Mackenzie is inside of fourteen-year-old Julienâs brain, and the emotional lyrics make Julienâs chest ache. Mackenzie continues, âinstead of backing me up, Tuesday melted right down,â and Julien lets out a small whimper as her stomach clenches, because that was her. She was the one begging her girlfriend to lie to her parents.
Mackenzie says, âto emphasize how much I loved Jesus and men,â and Julien feels sick.Â
She grips the counter behind her with one trembling hand as the second chorus starts, the other coming up to press against her mouth as she tries to process the words sheâs hearing. Bile sprays into her throat as she realizes that what Mackenzieâs recounting is a suicide attempt, and she shudders, half-gagging into her palm at a line about âpaper-thinâ skin.Â
Tears track steadily down Julienâs cheeks as she listens. Part of her is upset that her friend went through something so awful. Part of her is horrified and disgusted at the possibility that sheâd ever caused pain like this.Â
Oh, God, what if sheâs someoneâs Tuesday?
Her fist flies up to her head and knocks harshly, and as the verse comes to a close Julien spins, grips the edge of the sink not currently full of soapy dishwater, and throws up. The sound of it splattering into metal rings in her ears in time with Mackenzieâs voice starting in on the next verse.Â
âOh, my God,â Mariah rounds the corner at a jog, and Julien is silently grateful that the next line is drowned out. âDid you just throw up?â
Julien canât bring herself to meet her girlfriendâs concerned eyes, so she reaches for her phone with violently shaking hands instead, and pauses the demo just in time to hear the word âshameâ.
Mariah seems worried and confused as she washes Julienâs vomit down the sink, and Julien soon finds herself being pulled close, Mariah running a hand through her hair and asking, âwhat happened, JB?â
Julien swallows against the lump still sticking in her throat, and croaks out an astonished, âMackenzieâs a fucking good songwriterâ.
Itâs another week before she can convince herself to listen to the song again, and this time she makes it all the way to the end. She cackles at the last line - telling Tuesdayâs mom to âgo suck an eggâ - and shoots Mackenzie a text.
We have to put this on the album.

Inspired by this moment from the JBTorres virtual listening party last April:
