I realised that I never shared the final result of last week's #SewingSunday project! . Are used to love playing the piano back when I was still living with my parents, and holiday went past when I was in tinkering away on it somehow. I wasn’t particularly good (and still definitely I’m not) but I really enjoyed it. I really missed it when I moved out, and eventually two years ago we finally had a flat that was big enough for this amazing little e-piano. Unfortunately since the little one has come along I have stopped playing as much, which means that the keys have started to collect enough dust to make it noticeable! So I decided to make a little dust cover for it! . The base is made from an old linen tablecloth and the pattern is sourced from an old curtain. Time for a #SewingSunday post, even though technically the sewing happened over a year ago... . Last night was such a gorgeous sunny evening that we decided to test out our new bike trailer / buggy for the little one and wander into the village for an ice cream. With the weather getting warmer, I've put away most of my winter jackets and am starting to extract my spring clothes from storage. While rummaging in the basement wardrobe I rediscovered the leather jacket that I made from my trusty stash of recycled red sofa leather. I couldn't wear it last year because I was pregnant, but it fits again and it's perfect for these temperatures! Plus it fits beautifully with my @katziwaesche skirt and @hazelmade_clothing jumper and @dutchjesss hat! . I'm in baking mode this morning for a fundraising cake sale this afternoon. The frame of this panel starts out with sewed on the sides because of how this one is cut. The challenge comes from figuring out how to incorporate it into the rest of the quilt. As strange as it seems, despite my stressful situation, making this quilt and thinking of the future recipient of it is cathartic. It's #SewingSunday and yes, the red sofa leather strikes again! . For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, the gorgeous red leather used in this picture comes from an old sofa scheduled for disposal. I have already used it in so many projects (see story for links) and I still have so much left! . Today’s project was to make a little case for my new gadget. This week I treated myself to a Rode Wireless Go II (not sponsored by the way), which includes a mini receiver and two mini transmitters. The best part is that each transmitter can be used as a standalone audio recorder that can fit in your pocket. . “Why would I need an audio recorder?” I hear you ask. Well, I love writing, but I find that especially for my academic articles or longer pieces I struggle to remain concise and consequently it takes me a long time to get into the flow of things. However, when speaking, I’m always able to explain myself clearly. I therefore started using a dictation software called Dragon (not sponsored) last year, which is a great way to get my initial thoughts down on paper without getting all caught up in the wording. Dragon works best with a good quality microphone, which I already had on my desk thanks to podcasting. However, since the little one has arrived, I am less keen to sit at my desk all day writing. What I really needed was a good quality portable microphone that I could take with me on walks for example, and then I could run the audio file through my Dragon once i got home in order to transcribe it. It’s also means less time sitting in front of a screen, which to me is a big plus. . It’s one of those things that feels really weird when you start, because it’s not considered the “normal” way to write, but we are all different in lots of other ways and so I think it’s important for us to find a system that works for our own skill set. I’m still getting used to it, but it is amazing how much more productive I am if I can just say the words rather than having to type them. .
