Leggings part three! Sewing spandex seams! Sewing stretch material doesn’t have to be hard if you know how to handle it. Take some of these tips with you into that valley of death and come out alive on the other side! 💋 1: use plenty of pins (or clips) and remove them right before your presser foot would run them over! This will hold slippery, stretchy fabric in place along your seam line so it doesn’t warp. 2: use an appropriate needle for type of fabric! Stretch needles do exist and are amazing! Ballpoint needles are great for knits. These special needles have rounded heads to minimize slicing and skewering the elastic fibers of the fabric! Make sure to use the right size for the weight of your project, too. 3: your machine stitch setting needs to be, at minimum, a tiny zig zag if you don’t have a stretch setting. The purpose of these is to ensure close stitches, which make your seam even like a straight stitch, but the small zig zag will allow room for the fabric to flex.
