FLIP A COIN
synopsis: âFlip a coin, tails, I kill your partner, head⌠you kill herâ you, a seasoned detective, finding criminals of all sorts in no time, always one step ahead, until the day her name fell on your desk. It's been 6 months of you chasing her, finding her, only for Sevika to find a way out. Every. Single. Time. Your work partner Vi joins your mission, attempting to aid in finding this woman, hoping 2 eyes and ears would help. Sevika loved you chasing her, exhilarated by the thrill of someone so beautiful wanting her, needing her⌠Until Vi came in. Her being around meant Sevika was at risk, at risk of losing you. She wanted only you, and that meant Vi needed to go.
CHAPTER I
Your lungs locked in, stopping yourself from breathing as you watched the black car with Sevika in it zoom off into the forest, dark trees framing the car as it faded away. âDetective! Get inâ the officer behind you called out, urging you to rush back into the patrol car to follow suit but your legs had a mind of their own, the sole of your shoe glued to the floor. âThey're going to get away!â she yelled as she drove the car beside you, pushing the passenger door open for you to jump in.Â
âSorryâ you mumbled as you snapped out of it, rapidly getting in as she sped off in pursuit. Sevikaâs words replayed over and over in your mind, migrating into every cell in your brain. âYou should really invest in some shower curtains, unless you wanted me to see you like thatâ you couldnât tell if you were scared or turned on by her comment, her eyes pierced into you like blades, undressing you in her mind.Â
âWhat did she say to you?â Vi inquired, her eyes trained on the pitch black road ahead as she sped up.Â
âNothing, it was nothingâ you disregard hastily, your heart pulsing faster than your train of thought, the thrill of the chase no longer seeming so black and white. Vi brakes the car to a halt as a shadow suddenly appears in front of the car, inevitably hitting whatever came in contact. âOh my godâ you mutter out, your eyes wide as you both freeze, unable to move a cell of your hair as blood trails onto the windshield. âWas thatâŚ?â you whisper out before turning to face the horrified Vi, her pale face indication a mutual fear.Â
âFuckâ she grits to herself as she slowly places her hand over the door handle, dreading to witness the innocent person theyâve just run over. âThis is going to be a lot of paperworkâ she murmurs before stepping out, pulling you by surprise that this was her biggest worry. You've seen many dead bodies, from children to elders, from disabled to homeless, all of them becoming numb to your heartache. But this was different. This is something you did, something she did. It's on your head. Pulling yourself together, you take a deep breath before unlocking your side of the door, only to be met with Vi bursting into laughter. Nonplussed, you step forward, peeking down at the body. âIt's a deer! Oh thank godâ she cheered.Â
Your brows knit together, taken aback by her joyful reaction as you stared down at the brown deer on the floor, blood sliding down its silky coat. âVi, it's not funnyâ you chided lowly, relieved but disgusted by your partner's lack of sympathy.Â
Composing herself, Vi raised her brow in challenge. âYou're just as relieved as me, don't get on your moral high horseâ Vi rebuked sarcastically.Â
âIt's not a moral high horse, we killed a deer, have a little compassionâ you scolded before pulling the little button off your belt, grabbing a pair of gloves. âNow help me move himâ you assert as you put them on, snapping the hem of the glove around your wrist. Taking in what you said, Vi obeys and puts on her own gloves before crouching down with you. âOn the count of threeâ you stated firmly before placing your hands under his upper back legs. âOne.. Two.. Three, ughâ you groan as you both lift the deer, its dead weight challenging both your strength.Â
Dragging it to the side of the road, you both catch your breath in unison, chest heaving slightly as you pull your gloves off before folding them over the other. âWe've lost her nowâ Vi spoke up, both of you glancing at the long road ahead of you, crickets singing all around you. You blow out harshly, adding this night onto your list of failed pursuits, Sevika, one step ahead of you once more.Â
You ponder over the last hour or so, remembering how close you were to her, you could smell the tobacco on her clothes, her words sending shivers to your spine as she stopped to let you catch up the foot chase from behind the residential homes. You spent hours that day following her from the crack of dawn, watching her from your car parked up nearby. You should have known it was a trap when you drove into the deep suburbs of town, but you couldn't risk losing her. Not now. You thought you had a chance when you entered a street with no exit at the end, hoping she would realize she's trapped behind you, but no, within a flash, she was out of her car, speeding off on foot. She was like a ghost hiding in plain sight, walking around like she isn't the most feared woman in town, dangerous to anyone that crossed her. A constant chase of cat and mouse, her purrs keeping you awake at night as you spiraled.Â
Clenching your jaw, you felt anger seeping in rapidly at your loss. Your arms traveling to the back of your head, your palms over your hair in frustration as stared at the tire indents in the muddy ground. Blinking once, you slowly remove your hand off your hair in realization. âWhat is it?â Vi questioned cautiously, already aware of your moment of realization.Â
âThe tire marks, she left us a trailâ you murmured softly before a chuckle escaped your lips. âYes! Thank you rainâ you yell out, your voice echoing in the forest as you round yourself to the car. âGet inâ you urge as you jump into the passenger seat, quickly clicking your seatbelt into place as Vi quickly joins you. Switching the headlights on full beam, she quickly drives off, following the trail shaped out in front of you, teasing you.Â
âWhat? No, are you fucking serious?â you splutter out as you look at the road that has now split into two different paths, both of them with identical tire trails. Your head harshly falls back on the headrest as you kick your knee against the glove box in frustration. âShes fucking with me!â you exclaim with a staggered breath, exasperated by her taunt.Â
âHey, it's fine. Let's head back, we can restart tomorrowâ she comforted gently, taking notice of your fatigue.Â
âNo! Tomorrow will be the same thing Vi! I'm so sick of this, she won't let me sleep, eat, or even fucking breath. Iâm constantly thinking about her, what she's doing, how she keeps escaping me, I need to find her!â you snap, ranting with your eyes blurring in frustration, the croak in your voice giving away how wrapped up you were, desperate even.Â
Vi remains silent, waiting for you to calm your nerves before taking a deep silent breath, not knowing what to say to help. âLook, I think itâs best if you take a breather, take a week off and come back freshâ Vi suggested softly, her voice so calm it could be mistaken for a lullaby.Â
âNo, what? I canât do that! If I drop this, I donât only lose her but I lose the promotionâ you justify, aiming for Vi to understand you, even if itâs merely superficial. âI need to find her, put her away forever and then enjoy the pay riseâ you finish, your words trailing off into a tired sigh.Â
The car falls silent as you both ponder for a moment, your eyes stinging under the bright headlight. âWhat do you want to do? She would be impossible to find right now, and it's getting really lateâ she offers as she turns the headlights off before reversing slowly, taking your silence as approval.Â
The drive back home was still on the outside, but your mind was on the contrary, rethinking everything over and over again. All you wanted was to see her perfect face in a prison cell, locked away from the world, rotting away for all her crimes against humanity. âFuck, i need to stop thinking about herâ. Your thoughts faded to Sevika, wondering how she can have this effect on you, her deep eyes holding so much enigma. Her tall figure towered over you every time you managed to get close enough, her arms pulsing through her tight t-shirts, her dark lips, so kissable. âSnap out of it, she's evil!â you scold yourself, once again failing at not admiring her.Â
âHave a good night, i will see you at workâ Vi softly spoke up as the car stopped in front of your apartment complex.Â
You take a harsh breath as you turn to face Vi, tossing her a quick but professional smile as you place your hand over the door handle before it locks. Tilting your head back to face Vi in confusion, your heart skips a beat as she stares back at you. âWhat are you-? can you unlock this door?â you stammer.Â
âDrop this, you're going to lose everything if you don'tâ she stated calmly, although it felt more like a threat, a warning to halt it all.Â
âWhat? No, you know that's not happening, now unlock it before I take your badgeâ you rebuke, tossing your own warning in as she threatens her superior.Â
âDrop this, it's not going to end wellâ she repeated, her tone cooling into a hateful one.Â
âOfficer Lanes, I'm not going to tell you again, open this door or I will have your badge by the morningâ you warned one last time, the usage of her last name pulling a further distance between you both.Â
âOh we're back to last names nowâ she remarked sarcastically before unlocking the door, allowing you to open it but you remain seated in the car, unsatisfied with her sudden change in demeanor.Â
âWhy don't you want me to continue? What are you scared of?â you question with your eyes sharpened, analyzing the way her eyes wrinkle at the corner ever so slightly at the questions.Â
âBecause I'm scared you'll get hurtâ she admitted in a low mumble, the words coming out loud and clear to your ears as you breath in harshly.Â
âVi, don't do this, don't catch feelings now, we both agreed what this was and what had happened between us was a mistakeâ you explain softly, your words coming out vastly more harsh than you intended. âI'm sorry, but you know we can't happen, especially not when i'm your superiorâ you justify in a whisper, soothing your scold.Â
âYeah.â She simply utters, her jaw clenching slightly before she shifts in her seat, the uncomfortable conversation suffocating both of you. âIt's not because you're my superior though, if it was, you wouldn't have done it in the first place. Just say you don't want to be with me, dont bullshit me about rules and regulationsâ Vi argued calmly, both of you too tired and drained to raise your voices.Â
She was right, and you knew that. She didn't deserve this but you couldn't help how you felt, someone else was clouding your mind, making it crystal clear who you want to be near. âI'm sorry, Violet,â you stated.Â
âYeah, that's what i thoughtâ she concluded, unable to look in your direction as she stared at the gold lit lamppost, her words indicating your unwelcomed company as you placed your foot out of the car. Giving her one last glance, you pause for a moment, rethinking your words and hers, the atmosphere unfamiliar to you.Â
âHave a good night, Lanesâ you state softly before leaving the car, gently shutting the door behind you as you walk away. You felt guilty for having to say those words, but you knew it was the right thing to do, for her and for you, and definitely for your career.Â
Switching the warm light into your small apartment, you toss your keys onto the kitchen counter before dragging your shoes off with the other foot. Turning your TV on, you unbuckle your belt, slowly placing your gun in front of you along with your badge. The background news playing blends in with the outside traffic, creating the perfect somber quietude for the lonely apartment you reside in. You glance up at the white Ikea clock situated on the wall in front of you, the time reminding your eyes and stomach that they require your attention. Desperate attention. Rubbing your eyes, you stand up and walk over to the fridge, opening it as you grab the bottle opener beside you, flipping it over the beer that is now resting in your hand. Taking a generous sip, you scan the fridge, searching through the jams and milk, an odd jar of pickles with a lonely slice of bread sitting in its bag. A horrible buzz pulls your attention away, the sound drawing you to your front door. People say you're paranoid, you prefer to call it cautious. You grab the pistol resting behind you before slowly stepping towards the front door, peaking through the peephole to wage the danger.Â
âHello?â a young man calls out, his head tilting as he rang the bell again, the brown pizza box in his other hand seeming heavy as he rested a white bag over it.
âYou have the wrong house, I didn't order anythingâ you state through the door, loud enough for him to hear you loud and clearly.Â
âOh, hi, no.. I'm pretty sure this is it, apartment number 14, it's a âpre-paid delivery by a friendâ they said '' he explained awkwardly, his curly ginger hair peeking through his motor-scooter helmet. Your brows inch together in confusion, attempting to work out who the hell would send you this, let alone at 2 in the morning, on a Wednesday night. âHello? Are you still there?â he inquired.Â
âYes, yes sorry.â you quickly unlatched the door, unlocking it before opening it, only to be met with a wide-eyed teen staring down at your hand. You lower your eyes to the gun in your hand, rapidly tucking it back in your back pocket. âSorry kid, it's okay, I'm a copâ you assure with a gauche chuckle, embarrassed by your over-reaction. Carefully, he moves the delivery over to you, watching as you take it from him before he retreats away in a rush. âSorry for scaring youâ you call out before he turns the corner, leaving you in the silent hallway, barefoot and humiliated.Â
Could it be poisoned? Most likely, but that was not a problem you cared about when you smelled the melted cheese escaping the box. You placed it down on the counter gently, lifting the white bag off the box, your eyes falling to the little note on top, staring back at you in red ink.Â
You're gonna need some food in your         stomach for tomorrow.                  X Sevika
Your heart drops to your stomach as you read it over and over, verifying your mind is not playing tricks on you and you're actually reading this right. You felt your shoulder drop slowly as the warm food lingered around you, tempting you to taste. âFuck itâ you mumble to yourself as you open the box, staring at the pizza in front of you, set perfectly to your preference and sauce. You felt your mouth salivating at what was in front of you, your hands drawn to it as you picked up the first slice, your eyes closing as your taste buds met with the pizza.Â
Before you knew it, the box was empty, and so was the bag filled with your favorite sides, your stomach threatening to explode. You couldn't get your mind to stop pondering over her note and gesture, confused by what this meant, what she meant. Why would she do this? What is happening tomorrow? As sweet as this was, you felt your gut twist, warning you that there was an ulterior motive.Â

Delicate Flames
CHAPTER II : Sevika recounts a series of events leading to her father's death and her family's downfall. Y/N learns of their family's role in causing Sevika's suffering, including the loss of her mother and Sevika's own mutilation as punishment. Struck by guilt and remorse, Y/N offers restitution, but Sevika rejects it, harboring deep-seated resentment and refusing to forgive. As the tension dissipates, Y/N seeks to understand Sevika's pain, prompting Sevika to share her story of injustice and loss. Through their conversation, a fragile understanding begins to emerge between them, hinting at the possibility of reconciliation amid a backdrop of betrayal and privilege.
MEN AND MINORS DNI
You didnât get the chance to breathe as your heart fell to your stomach, completely taken aback by the sudden change, her tone, mixed in with your vulnerability as you laid beneath her, completely defenseless. She pulled her fingers out as she got up, standing still as she watched your face go from flustered to ghostly white compared to the yellow musked cement walls.Â
âHow- I uh, I can explainâ you stumbled as you pulled your knees forward as you sat up, shielding your bare chest as your hands trembled discreetly.Â
âYou donât have toâ Sevika stated coldly, her grin growing as she sat down on the wooden chair facing the bed. âNow I genuinely believe that you were lost, but what I donât understand is why you had this sewn into your dressâ she inquired as she pulled out the dagger from the back of her belt.Â
Your brows wrinkle together at her question as you try to process the fast shift in atmosphere. âWhat do you mean? Itâs a family heirloomâ you explain unsurely.Â
âFamily heirloom? Really?â She scoffed out as she stood up before treading back to the side of the bed. Gulping down the harsh lump in your throat, you retreat in fear of the reality in front of you, your fate now locked in her fingertips. âLast time I checked, this was my fathers. He gave this to me, so unless weâre cousins, one of us is lying, and Iâm not a liar, "Sevika conceded as she grabbed your ankle, pulling you closer.Â
You let out a yelp as she placed the blade under your chin with her hand still gripped on your ankle, trapping you as she leaned in closer. âIâm not lying, my father gave this to me on my 10th birthdayâ you defend in a stammer, your body frozen at the imminent threat laying above your throat.Â
âAre you calling me a liar Y/N?â Sevika asked calmly as she pressed the blade flat under your chin.Â
âNo maâamâ you mutter, her features blurring as you hold your breath, fearful of moving even a hair. You whimper quietly as her metal hand lets go of your ankle, her eyes never leaving yours.Â
âYou think your fancy dresses and tea cups hide the evil that you guys commit to the people beneath you?â She badgered in loath, her teeth locked in as she watched you shake your head carefully. âUse your words, Princess,â Sevika taunted.Â
âNo, it doesnâtâ you mumbled, your body cooling down the longer you remain undressed. She remained still on you as she watched you crumble into a silent weep, your confidence completely evaporated. âIâm sorry for what my father did, I really am. We can fix itâ you barter softly.
She let out an audible scoff of disbelief as she leaned down to get to your eye level. âYou can bring back the dead now? bring back my arm, my family? My reputation? Iâd rather burn my other arm off then take your helpâ she spat clearly, every single word digging a deeper cave in your chest.Â
âN-no of course not, but we can do something, Iâll payâ you offer desperately. You didnât know the full story but you realize how naive you were until now, worshiping the ground your father walked on when he stomped his way to power. The way she is glaring at you makes you want to dig a hole through the bed into the deep cement ground and bury yourself within.Â
âPay? Youâll pay for what? Just so you can shut me up like you shut everyone up that goes against his dictatorship, ruining peopleâs lives when they are just trying to survive?â She snapped as her eyes flashed into a dark gray, the glisten that usually resided now completely gone. Your features wrinkled as you tried to understand what she was saying, her anger seeming harsh from your perspective. âYou have no idea do you?â She snickered as she removed the dagger from your neck, drifting it down to your shoulder.Â
âTell me, so I can do something. I can bring you back, get him to apologize, Iâll give you a title, respect, money, whatever you need to fix itâ you sputtered out before you winced in pain as she grazed your skin.Â
âYouâre not listening, I donât want anything from you or your scum of a familyâ she spat between clenched teeth. âWhat you did, can't be fixed with words, and fancy titlesâ Sevika commented with a lift of her top lip, scowling at her mock of your promise of status.Â
âThen tell me, what did we do?â you rebuked in a plea, hopeful of finding a resolution, even if it's merely leaving with your life.Â
âYou really want to know?â Sevika questioned sarcastically as she pulled the knife away, yet part of her was surprised, taken aback that someone like you is actually interested in knowing what happened.Â
âYes, I can't find a solution if I don't know what happenedâ you urged softly, though it came out helpless, as if you needed her to tell you.Â
Sevika tapped the heel of her foot on the ground as she sat in the chair opposite you, her bottom lip in between her teeth as she contemplated actually telling you what happened.
****
âAre you insane? Why would you do that?â Sevika whisper-yelled at her brother as she crouched down on the cold concrete floor, her whispers echoing into the hollow brick.Â
âThey deserve it! You know what they did to father, and now mother is dead because of themâ he rebuked in a croaked shout, his words muffled by Sevika's pinching his leg.Â
âSo you wrote a letter threatening to kill the king?! Thatâs treason and you knew that!â Sevika snapped, angry that sheâs about to lose him as well when she promised to keep him safe.Â
âI didnât do anything though, theyâre still alive and wellâ he defended as he leaned his head to face the ground, realizing his royal fuckup.Â
âThat is not the point. Now weâre both to be executed before noonâ she revealed as she let herself fall back on her rear, glancing up at her younger brother in rage. Itâs been only a week since they lost their father after he failed to deliver the swords the king ordered in time, causing him to lose his life under the blade he crafted himself. The pain and anger was still so raw, it hadn't even processed in her mind. Her mothers suicide 3 days ago made it simple for a quick funeral, the couple together for eternity as their offspringâs waited to join them. âWhatever you do, do not say a word. Let me speak'' she warned as harsh footsteps approached the cell, loud keys clinking against each other as they stood up.Â
Sevika's heart fell to her stomach as she saw the king standing behind the guards, his shadow appearing as the guards created a path. Biting down her pride, Sevika leaned forward in a bow, quickly pressing on her brother's lower back to force him into a bow.Â
âI donât usually come to visit my enemies, but this is a particular scenario. A whole family, vanished in 7 days, all because their father couldnât deliver.â He started flatly as he rounded the bowing sibling. âAnd now, this boy threatens my life, the king that has offered your family a home, food, everything you could ever ask forâ he spat as he lifted her brother's chin, scanning his sharp features.Â
âYour Majesty, if I mayâ , Sevika spoke up gently, urging to plead for her brother's life. The king paused his analysis of the boy and turned his attention to the tall Sevika, his height almost reaching hers. Almost.Â
âGo onâ he permitted in curiosity.Â
âWhat he did is unforgivable and foolish, heâs just a heartbroken boy. He means no harm, and definitely doesnât pose a threat to your throne or well being. I will punish him, he was acting out of the grief and anger of a 15 year old boy. I beg of you, Your Majesty, please spare his lifeâ she pleaded clearly, each word spoken with sincerity and fear, not of him, but rather the consequences sheâs being accustomed to.Â
His head tilted in intrigue as he pondered over her words as if, for the first time, he was being challenged. âLet me ask you this, the late king, my father. Do you know how he died?â He questioned calmly.Â
Sevika swallowed down as she breathed out harshly, âyes, Your Highnessâ she muttered.Â
âIâm glad you do, now would you like to let your brother know how the late king passed?â he asked with a little grin, reveling in the inevitable unravel.Â
âHe was assassinatedâÂ
âThatâs right, he was assassinated by a man, who was angry, and sad, just like your little brother here. So, why should I risk my life and throne? To spare the life of a scumâ He interrogated as he shifted his attention back to her brother, disgust lingering in his tone.Â
âHeâs a child, he did not mean itâ Sevika persisted, her voice gruff with frustration.Â
âHe didnât mean to write, âI will cut your throat the way you cut my fathersâ? Tell me serf, would you spare him if you were in my position?â He inquired, his insult locking Sevika' s jaw.Â
âYes, I would.â Sevika admitted firmly, hoping to use any tactic to save herself and her brother. âI would make an example out of him, show the people that you're not merciless as they see youâ she explained, her words trailing off as the king stepped back, allowing his guards to step forward.Â
âIt's a shame youâre not kingâ he remarked as Sevika took notice of the change in atmosphere, rapidly stepping in front of her brother.Â
âDonât take him, he's just a childâ Sevika pleaded as she let her knees hit the ground beneath her, kneeling for his life.Â
âPlace her in another cell, it's timeâ he ordered as he walked away, leaving a fighting Sevika behind, using all her restricted force to fight the guards off, but it was to no avail. Her screams held no power with her hands chained as she echoed her little brother's cries in the distance, fading into the early morning execution.Â
****
You inhaled harshly through your nose, betrayal seeping through your veins as your fathers image cracked in your eyes, his gentle eyes no longer holding its delicate lullabies. Sevika's hand instinctively soothed her metal arm as she remembered the pain from that day, the physical hardly compared to the hole in her heart that remained. âHe took my arm, said it was so no one in my family can ever threaten him again, made it seem like he was doing me a favor by keeping me aliveâ she murmured.Â
âI- Iâm so sorry, I had no ideaâ you whispered, unable to come up with anything else to say to such an admission.Â
âOf course you didn't, how could you when all you could see was luxury and privilege?â Sevika remarked as she glanced down at the dagger on her lap.Â
âDid your father make that?â you questioned as your eyes followed her fingers over the dagger. You could feel the danger slowly fade away as she opened up, the room returning to its previous quietude.Â
âNo, my grandfather did, my father gave it to me when I was old enough to hold a weaponâ she explained as a little smile crept up, her smile quickly faltering once you returned a sympathetic grin. Your understanding seemed to hold an opposite effect as she stood up and shielded the dagger in the back of her belt before stepping back. âStorytime is over, get some sleep, I'll bring you back home in the afternoonâ she asserted as she pulled the wooden door open.Â
Your heart felt as though it could beat again at those words, knowing that she wasn't here for revenge or to harm you, she just needed someone to know. âThank youâ you trailed as she caught one last glance of you before shutting the door gently, leaving you to dwell in your new found truth.Â
                 Â
Your heart jolted at the sudden creak of the door opening, too deep in thought to have heard Sevikaâs approaching footsteps. You spent the past few hours thinking as you listened to the banging and shuffling of Sevikaâs work, her closeness calming your meltdowns.Â
âLet's goâ she instructed as she placed a fur cloak on the foot of her bed, her figure casting a shadow over you. Steadily, you raised your body and leaned forward, a sharp pain in your core, pulling you back down on the bed. âWhat's wrong?â she questioned, a glimpse of concern lingering beneath the nonchalance.Â
You groan at the unfamiliar pain before you freeze at the realization. âFuckâ you mumble to yourself.Â
âOh, the princess swearsâ Sevika taunted as you knocked your head back into the pillow.Â
âNo, I can't go home like this,â you explained as you scanned your body, purple and red marks trailing all down your chest, and you're assuming up your neck.Â
âOh that, I guess youâll have to deal with the new tarnished nameâ Sevika stated with a raise of a brow, the reality of your new found dilemma was beginning to seem like good karma, delivered right to her doorstep.Â
âNo, you don't understand, I'll never be able to marry, and I can forget the throne while I'm at itâ you expressed in slight panic, pondering over your options.Â
âNo, I understand, trust meâ Sevika uttered with a scoff as she raised the fur cloak. â Now let's go, I have a lot of work to do and I can't work when you're hereâ she motioned as she watched the panic in your mind seep through your expression. She knew you didn't deserve this, but part of her finally felt in control of her relationship with power, finally holding the upper hand.Â
You could feel a sweat reach the hairs on your skin as you glanced up at Sevika, hoping she would change her mind and spare you some pity you certainly don't deserve. âOne week, please, I promise I will stay out of your way, I can't go home like this. Sevika, pleaseâ you pleaded as you sat up. You could see a glimpse of contemplation in her eyes before it returned to its gray-tainted snowy eyes, denying you of mercy.Â
âNo, I am not harboring a princess in my house, it's suicideâ Sevika justified as she pulls a brown cigarillo from her pocket, lighting it aflame as she nudged your foot.Â
âNo one will know, pleaseâ you pleaded, your brows crunched in desperation.Â
âI said no, I'm not going to say it again. Put your coat on or I'll drag you out of here nakedâ Sevika asserted, her patience slipping into frustration. Part of Sevika was so tempted to let you stay in her bed, having you laid out for her to admire was the temptation whispering in her ears, but she knew that came with a price she was not willing to pay.Â
You gulped down the tears that were meant to appear next as you submitted to her request, sliding the warm cloak over your slip dress. Silently, you walked to the front of the barn as she followed behind, contemplating her decision over and over, wondering if she was making a mistake by letting you go.
its been so busy lol, hope you like it, sorry there is no smut in this one since i am also a sucker for a little angst, i hope you are too lol

FLIP A COIN
CHAPTER II
Smacking your hand over your phone, you drag it towards you with your eyes closed before opening one eye to switch off the alarm ringing through your ear drums. Your eyes do a double take as you catch a glimpse of the time, shooting you straight into immediate panic as you jump out of bed, quickly tossing on a t-shirt that is laid out at the foot of your bed. âFuck, fuck, fuckâ you mumble to yourself as you pull your hair into a high ponytail, quickly wiping the mascara off your under-eyes. Zipping up your pants, you run over to your kitchen, grabbing your belt along with your radio and weapon, snapping them into place as you open the front door, only to speed back into the bedroom to grab your forgotten phone.Â
Walking into the office felt like a scene out of a movie, eyes gawking at you from every direction as you walked in, the other officers creating a path for you. What the fuck? Smiling in confusion and discomfort, you make your way to your glass office, your sergeant and watch commander standing with their arms crossed, waiting for you to shut the door behind you.Â
âSo sorry, I overslept, Sirâ you apologize awkwardly as you take your leather jacket off.Â
âYou being late isn't why we are hereâ your watch commander stated sternly, his eyes panned in disappointment. Double what the fuck?Â
âOh- whats, uh, what's going on?â you inquire with a broken voice, your senses rising to a hundred. You swallowed down, hard, as your sergeant walked to the glass cabinet at the side of your desk, scanning your framed awards and trophies for the work you've done.Â
âI thought giving you this case would be simple, a quick case opened and closed, but no.â he insinuated flatly, his back turned to you as his arms rested on his lower back.Â
âSir, I'm so close, it's been a little harder than expectedâ you admit in defense, completely confused by the tension sitting in your chair, admiring the scene as you fall apart in anxiety.Â
âAt what cost?â your watch commander chipped in, his eyes trained on your tired face, your eyes dark from insomnia.Â
âWhat? Sir Iâm confused by what's going-âÂ
âWhen was the last time you spoke to Officer Lanes?â he interrogated calmly as the sergeant rounded his way back to you, standing side by side with your watch commander.Â
âLast night? Why? Is something wrong?â you asked with concern slipping through, your gut telling you there's something they're not telling you, something is terribly wrong. You can feel it.
âNothing is wrong, Officer Lanes is perfectly okay, but you not so muchâ the sergeant joined back in, watching you like a hawk.Â
You tilt your head back, taken aback by how they're jumping around what's wrong, speaking in riddles, almost as if they're waiting for you to spill. Confess. âAm I in trouble for something?â you interrogate in response, unwilling to jump around in circles and waste more time, or worse, incriminate yourself. You knew exactly what their âinnocentâ questions meant, they think you've done something, you know that because it's what you do all day, it's your job.Â
Your watch commander exhales harshly before he throws a glance to the sergeant before he nodded at him, allowing the watch commander to explain. âWe wanted to hear what you have to say before we do this, we trust you, and frankly we're both very disappointed in youâ he expressed as you spiraled, your heart in your mind beating in echoes, muffling his words as he continued. âOfficer Lanes came to us this morning, told us about last night, how you've been inappropriate to her, harassing her after work, showing up to her place and even persuading her into.. Uh, sleeping with youâ he finished, the last part falling in a croak at how uncomfortable he was by having to be the one to say it out loud.Â
You couldn't help but burst into a loud chuckle of disbelief, completely nonplussed by the things you were hearing. âDo you think this is funny, detective?â the sergeant spoke up, his tone searching for amusement. Goosebumps spread over your skin, realizing this is real, you're being accused of abusing your inferior. Fuck. You couldn't feel your pulse, you felt as if you're floating into space, your mind and body numb from the shit you've dug yourself in. She's the victim, and you're the predator.Â
âI- that's not true.. She wanted it to-â you gulp the remainder of your sentence down with your courage as you look at their faces, knowing you've just made it worse. You just shot yourself in the foot, and there's no way out.Â
âI'm going to need your gun and badge, I am hereby placing you under administrative leave effective immediately. You are not to leave town, you are not to act as detective or any form of enforcement in any capacity, including court. We will let you know of any changes once the investigation is no longer pendingâ the watch commander asserted as he opened his arm to take your gun as you paused for a moment. âDetective,â he warned gently.Â
âSorryâ you mumbled as you took the badge off your belt, passing it to him with your eyes pinned to the badge in his palm, your hands trembling as you processed what had just happened. âWhat now?â you whispered, your eyes blurring ever so slightly as you glanced up at them both.Â
âYou go home, think over your defenseâ your commander advised, a faint crack in his voice seeping under his stoicism, confirming to you it wasnât a decision either of them wanted. Clenching your jaw to hold the tears desperate to escape, you nod in understanding as your chin tremors.Â
A stillness that can only be described as a frozen moment in time takes over before they separate from one another, creating an opening for you to exit your office. Swallowing your pride, you step out in silence, the whispers dancing around you as they gaze at the consequence of negligence and emotions. You expected to feel angry, but all you felt was betrayal, not only by her, but by yourself as well, allowing yourself to end up in this position. Now you've lost it all, in a flash of a second, you've lost your career, your dream, and Sevika.Â
Your feet formed a mind of their own as you walked to your car, your head ringing profusely as the heel of your foot hit the concrete beneath you with every footstep. You had no idea what's next. Leaning on the little voice in your head, you drove down to the little bar hiding a block away, welcoming all the walking dead men and women, every degenerate and drunk, keeping eachother company.Â
Locking the door behind you, you take a deep breath before pulling the door open, walking into the somber bar and sitting down in the corner, away from any form of life. âI'll have a Johnnie, neat. Pleaseâ you murmur as you rest your head on your palm, your elbows keeping you up.Â
âTough day at the office?â the bar man inquired as he poured your whiskey glass, sliding it over to you as he walked up to you.Â
âYou could say thatâ you replied with an audible scoff, still in disbelief at the turn of events.Â
âYou stuck on a case?â he suggested as he turned his back to you, placing clean glasses on the shelf, preparing for the afternoon rush while it was quiet. You furrow your brows as you look up at him, taken aback by his knowledge of you being a cop.Â
âHow did you-?â
âIt's obvious you're a cop, jeans with a t-shirt and a leather jacket? Seriously? You couldn't be a more stereotypical cop.â he pointed out as he turned back around to face you, one brow raised as he scanned your attire.Â
You let out a little chuckle as you down your drink, amused by his judgemental analysis. âYou should be a detective yourself, Mr Sherlockâ you rebuke playfully as you slide your glass back to him, indicating for a second pour.Â
âI should, shouldn't I?â he remarked with a warm little laugh of his own, pouring your glass before he pulled his attention to the man at the other side of the bar calling him over. You grab your second glass, allowing the whiskey to burn its way down your throat, getting rid of the lump hidden in it. You let your head back down to the bar as your arms shield your face, your foot tapping against the bar rod along with the slow beat of the music playing in the background. An oncoming shuffle of a person approaches before they sit down beside you, their leg slightly brushing against yours as you shift back slightly, not bothered to pay any attention to their presence.Â
âDo you usually start drinking at 11 AM?â your heart falls to your gut at the voice, the owner of it being only one possible person, and here they are, delivering themselves to you. In reflex, you slide your hand to your gun holster as you lift your head, only to be met with her brow raised, amusement lingering in her stone eyes. âTsk, they took your gun, remember?â she taunted as she slid her jacket slightly, revealing the pistol in her holster. âThey didn't take mine. stayâ she asserted, her tone flat, almost as if she's bored, routined.Â
âW-what? What are you doing here?â you ask as you lower your leg to the ground, preparing yourself for an easy escape. Her words were so contradictive with how calm she was, there were no nerves in her, she was confident. Her arms looked as though she didn't need her gun to kill you, a simple wrap around them and she'd crush you, her build was hunched over the thin bar stool, her shoulders leaned forward as she relaxed.Â
âDo you usually stutter when you investigate someone?â she pondered, her eyes now turned to her glass as she raised it before pinning her attention back to you. âCheers?â she offered, a thin smile forming for the first time since you met.Â
âCheers? To what?â you questioned cautiously, your body frozen at a loss of escape, or defense for that matter, and her aura was making you extremely unnerved.Â
âTo freedomâ Sevika answered, her features sharp as she waited for you to obey.Â
For some reason, her words, mixed in with the smug grin plastered on her beautiful face pulled a rage only the fool would act on, and it looked like you were a fool, with a death wish. You didn't have a weapon, but you had a fair amount of skill, not enough to beat her, but enough to let your adrenaline convince you that you can. Lifting your glass to feign a cheer, you pull the most convincing smile you can muster as you watch her cling her glass against yours. Catching your opportunity, you shift your arm forward and smash the glass onto her head, causing her to grunt heavily as she loses her posture, giving you just enough time to gain a head start.Â
The lungs in your chest clamped together, ready to keep you afloat for this escape, hoping to put those running skills to good use. Slamming the bar door open, you let your feet take charge, running as fast as you can, each breath counting down as you made it further and further. You didn't dare look back, knowing if you do, it'll be a lost cause, it always is. All you knew was that she was behind you, you could see her shadow against the hot day, the sun reflecting on the pavement. She was getting closer. You strategize as you keep going, scanning for the best route to take, knowing the area like the back of your hand finally came useful, pointing you to the perfect alleyway.Â
Sudden silence takes over, her shadow disappearing like a faded imagination, leaving you to lower your guard, slowing down as your run shifts into a jog as you enter the alley way. You find a wall to lean on, using it as a reinforcement to catch your lost breath, your chest heaving as you shut your eyes.Â
You open your eyes back slowly before they go wide as you stand before her, her body shading you from the sun as she stood there and watched you, her breath far more recollected than yours. âI winâÂ
You let out a little shriek as you jump up slightly, comepletey taken aback by her presence. How did she beat you here?Â
âWe're quite alike if you really think about it. You know every creek and corner of every street, so does someone like me. You know how to operate a weapon, so do I. And best of all, you know how to lie and convince anyone to do whatever you want them to, and guess what? So do I. So tell me detective, what makes you so different from me?â she interrogated, her words clear and distinct as she scanned every shift in your pupils. Your stomach was in circles at how nervous and scared you were, there was no way out now. You knew you'd either leave here in a stretcher, or in a body bag. She didn't have her physique for show, she was strong and you could tell, her forearms showed her weight capacities, her legs looked like she could suffocate you with them in no effort. You needed a plan B, maybe it was time to stand up for yourself, hoping that will throw her off.Â
âI dont kill for my own benefitâ you spit as you take a step forward, not ready to let her win just yet, you canât let her scare you.Â
âOh, you're a brave one aren't you?â Sevika cooed as she took the challenge, stepping forward as well, your chest ghosting on her shirt.Â
âIt's not bravery, I would need to be scared to be brave, and you donât scare meâ you lie, hoping your locked jaw will convince her otherwise. With your heart on pause, you watch time slow into a still quietude as she glared down at you, attempting to figure out your game, because you both knew this was a dangerous game. You couldn't tell if she was plotting or simply waiting for you to fold, but the tension was quickly melting you to speak up. âI deal with dirt like you everyday, you'll have to do a little more than that to make me scared of youâ you scorned.Â
A little smirk grows on her dark lips, taken aback by your words. âOkay detective, let me see you catch me without the security of a gun and badge, you think you can do that?â Sevika jibed as she lifted the leather hook over her pistol. Grabbing her gun, you back up immediately, only to watch her lower it to the ground, her eyes not leaving yours for an instant.Â
Fuck.
You watched her stand back up before tossing the gun back a little more with her foot as she crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for your response. Both of you knew sevika would win, there was no question about it. You had your skills of course, but without your badge and gun, you were at a severe disadvantage. It was a game you couldn't win, and deep down, you knew it.
âShow me what you got princessâ
Not me lowkey serving sevika vibes today
