After the disastrous duel on Bespin, more than mere words transpire over the newly forged bond between father and son. And this time, R2 is not so lucky with the hyperdrive. Darth Vader is beyond pleased to finally have his son in custody, but the Force keeps whispering something about the terrorist Princess as well.

With the identity of Lord Vader's long lost son revealed, every being of some consequence from Core to Outer Rim is busy plotting their own schemes for Luke Skywalker. The young rebel is trying his best to navigate the new relationship with his father, and scramble a plan or two of his own. Admiral Piett and various unsuspecting Imperial citizens are entangled in the drama. Vader acts completely unpredictable, the threads of destiny are tossed up in the air, and the Galaxy holds its breath.

What was the funniest comment or piece of feedback that you received?

....I am wracking my brain, but I genuinely cannot remember. I've received some great comments so I'm sure there are a lot that sent me into hysterics, but I can't think of any 😂

What's a recurring theme that showed up in your works?

Hmm, that's a good question. I used to joke that I wrote about teenagers trying to figure out their place in the world, but other than Sparks I haven't written much on that this year. I think writing Luke and Vader by necessity involves some repetitive themes though. Unconditional love and how far it stretches is a massive one, of course, but I'm also really interested in the theme of control, and the inherent uncertainty of the world. Anakin falls because he believes he knows the future and needs to control it to feel safe, so that's a big part of Vader's character. Codex is a lot about that, and I've been thinking about it for over three years, since No Heroes also has a similar theme.

What's the weirdest thing you researched for a fic?

I tried to research Elizabethan English for a fantasy AU fic idea and quickly abandoned that when I realised I did not have the time to investigate a form of English from 400 years ago. The fic is still on the shelf though!

You didn’t specify a fic so I’ll just work off of Swords and Starflowers, and Deathmark, bc i know you know/like them both :D You write SAS I would hope you knew and liked it XD

1. If you had to create a soundtrack for your story, what songs would you choose? Why? 

Ooooh that’s hard, just because I can never remember soundtracks even if I adore them 😂 I have playlists for most of my fics on Spotify, and I’m on mobile so I can’t get any links, but in terms of soundtracks…

SAS: I use the How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack a lot when writing, the Solo soundtrack (in hindsight I just really like John Powell for SAS), and Davy Jones themes from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Deathmark: Mostly the soundtrack from the Witcher games, which I have never played but whose soundtrack slaps. With some Palpatine’s theme, Imperial March, and a lot of Lord of the Rings as well.

3. If you had to direct a scene from your fic, what would you choose? Why? What would it look like? What techniques would you use to convey certain emotions? What would the set look like?

I answered this here for Eclipse, but:

Deathmark: I would probably choose the scene in chapter 2 from where Beru and Owen find Luke to where he wakes up and then he eats with them. It’s not a massively exciting one, but in my head I know where the camera goes and everything exactly, bc there’s a lot to be conveyed in that scene. (I know nothing about cinema so I can’t give anything more than that.)

SAS: a scene that hasn’t been written yet but we’ve discussed for a future instalment 😁 The one with the caverns under the desert in Tatooine, I have an idea for a scene in them that involves Luke hanging from a rope from the ceiling, and I think it would just look very epic.

7. Who is the most important person to your character(s)? Why?

Deathmark: For Vader, Luke; he’s just the centre of his world in that fic. For Luke, that’s really hard to answer because of how many characters in the story have shaped him, but I’d say it’s a mixture of Vader, Piett and Sabé for how they raised him (then, after the story, Beru, Owen and Leia are super important as well for what they taught him.)

SAS: For Anakin/Vader: Padmé and Palpatine, for how much impact they had on his life, then Luke when he finds him again. For Luke: Padmé and Obi-Wan for the past for how they raised him, then Vader for the future for how he’ll learn.

4) favorite character you’ve written

LUKE. I love Luke. He’s my fave. I probably will not read a fic without him, and certainly rarely write it. I love him. He is everything in my fave characters condensed into one.

5) character you were most surprised to end up writing

Hmmm, probably Obi-Wan? He makes his way into so many of my fics but I can never get a handle on him. 

OR, I know, Sabé. I know nothing about her. I have a vague grasp on her characterisation. But I love her and I love using her and The Heir and some of my collabfics probably betray that 😁

1. Is there a story you’re holding off on writing for some reason?

I have a lot of WIPs and have held back on almost all of them until I get some other things finished. There is the super obvious Born a Sith fic and dragon AU fic I’d love to write. Right now I’m just struggling with finding time to write even on my already on-going fics.

4.  Favorite character you’ve written?

At first I was going to say Vader, but then I quickly changed my mind. Little Luke is an absolute favorite of mine to write.

5.  Character you were most surprised to end up writing?

Hmmm. Not too sure. At first, Vader was very imitating to write. But now? I think Grevious was a hard one to write, though I only wrote his POV for one chapter. Same thing with R2. I had a WIP somewhere told from the perspective of a star destroyer. So . . . LOL.

12. Do you want to break your readers‘ heart or make them laugh?

To absolutely no one’s surprise, break their hearts :P Humour is... much harder, for me, though I’m working on it. Breaking hearts and (hopefully eventually) stitching them back together? Beautiful.

15. OCs or no OCs?

Overwhelmingly, no OCs -- I like coming up with names and personalities, don’t get me wrong, but if I can use a canon character, I will. I only use OCs when there’s a very specific role I need them to fill (which is becoming increasingly common recently, hmm.)

43. Guilty pleasure tropes and scenarios?

*ahem* That’s my main one :D but otherwise: Vader thinking Luke is dead or injured; Luke being a sunshine boy; Vader being soft for Luke; Luke and Vader in general... Luke doing his best to be good, and kind, no matter the situation; Luke being put in a difficult situation and getting to show just how smart he is, and good at thinking on his feet...  Luke and Padmé (my two faves!), in general, or more usually Luke and his relationship with Padmé’s legacy/his similarities to her/how he relates to her... Dramatic irony; and, of course, angst and suffering.

48. What is your favorite sentence that you’ve used in a fanfic?

Ahhh I can’t choose. I have no idea. But, two ones do jump to mind:

The first one, you know :P It sounds cool and it’s good for worldbuilding.

and the other one has a bit more depth to it than just sounding cool, and it’s:

The shadows were coming for him, and they did not want to play.

*insert essay about its reference to an earlier line in the fic and how it’s meant to reference Luke’s growth since the start and the difference between his dark side child self and his light side-inclined young adult self which I don’t have the time to write right now*

Do you write original stories as well?

I started out writing original stories. I have always loved creating stories since I was young. I used to handwrite them in journals. I have original stories in my head, but I haven’t written anything for them in years.

Do friends and family know that you write fanfics?

Family? No. Friends? Yes. My family may know I like to write . . . IDK honestly. I doubt they know what I write about if they know.

Collaborations or working solo?

I mostly work solo, but I’m not against working collaboratively. I’ve had help with brainstorming from people. But have yet to really work on something where two or more people are writing or collaborating together equally on a story.

What is your favorite sentence that you’ve used in a fanfic?

Uhhhhh. Way to put me on the spot. Hmm.

From In the Past, chapter 64: Vader opened his eyes as he felt something move in his lap. He looked down at his lap to see an opened holocron. 

This is the ending line(s) of this chapter and the ending of a story arc. It indicates Vader’s transition into the Light Side, and I loved it. I don’t know if it’s my favorite, but it is one that stood out to me.

Another fav is from Goodhood, Chapter 22:  "I am the Princess of Hades," Leia said. "I welcome you to my realm."
