there's something about the specificity of severance's procedure that continuously piques my attention
like, Mark didn't just get severed. He got severed with a specific goal in mind - to forget the grief and love related to Gemma. Not, like, all grief in general, but a very specific grief and pain related to a certain person. (like in order to forget pain he needs to forget gemma and love for her he had)
Then there is Dylan, who's insecure in the outie world but isn't on the inside.
Irving, who builds meaningful relationships (but he seems to lack them on the outside).
Helly, who's proactive and asks questions and initiates stuff and is ready to set the world (Lumon) on fire (good for her).
I just think that severance chips are not built like a one-pill-fits-all solution. I think the chip is individually tuned to a certain problem that the person wants to get rid of and/or avoid in their daily life, and then the rest of the "personal experience" that is blocked by the chip is kinda built around that problem. does it make sense?...
like, ofc they tune the chips individually to each person because brains are different. but they also tune chips to different types of problems and emotions that need to be blocked.
What I want to say is, if the severed person wants to forget love because of all the pain (and all the pain because of love), love will not transcend severance. But if the severed person doesn't want it to be forgotten, it will transcend.
i really needed to get this out of my system, idk if it makes any sense
