Maybe it was because they completed seven albums in five years or maybe it was because the world wasn’t changing fast enough and for aging 25 year olds, or maybe it was because they had so/too quickly become one of the top rock acts of the time and were just simply getting burned out. Or maybe it was all of this and more, but the last album of the classic seven Moodies has always felt a bit tired, uninspired, disconnected, and perhaps even a little cold. A collection of eight songs joined together by not much of anything. Look at the cover of the album…it says much. Bleak, desolate, a bit like England on a grey soggy day. The track order doesn’t help things either. They should have led off with “I’m just a singer..” instead of leaving that to the very last track. And what about that song? The message seems: “despite everything that we’ve written about, sung about, created music for these these last 5 years ...oh, never mind, in the end we’re just a bunch of rock-n-rollers.” What an epiphany! There are some good songs on the album just not any great ones. Musically “You And Me” is the most interesting with wonderful guitar work and what I assume is a mellotron or chamberlin playing in the background but the song seems to spend a lot of time revving up and then never really goes anywhere. Lost in a Lost World is also good but rather grim for an opener. Both New Horizons and For My Lady are very pretty songs but again not terribly memorable. After this album the band took a break. The break ended up being longer than expected some five or six years or so and musically the times had changed.
