Teaching is a noble profession. The job of teachers is definitely not an easy one, and they deserve respect for what they do in shaping the lives of their students. However, students are often found asking or saying things to teachers that they shouldn't ever. Not only is it rude, but also disrespectful to the teacher. 1. "It must be easy and fun for you to just play around with kids all day."
A teacher does more than just reciting to students or playing games with them. It's more about getting them to fathom the things around them on a deeper level, no matter what age or class the child is in. From preschool to high school, educating is never just recess — teachers put in a great deal of work every single day. This is what some schools in Delhi believe.
2. "You are not teaching properly since my grades are low."
Grades or test scores are not everything. Often, there are flaws within standardized testing. Some ICSE schools in Delhi strongly hold the opinion that students just don't perform well in tests, and even the best teachers have such students. It is wrong to blame the teacher for this. Grades don't necessarily reflect the skill level of a teacher.
3. "When I retire, I think that taking up teaching must be a good and easy option."
It is wrong of you to assume that teaching is an easy profession. It isn't a hobby like painting or gardening. When you understand the amount of effort a teacher puts in every day, teaching will probably make your previous job feel like a vacation.
4. "If you actually cared about imparting knowledge to kids, you wouldn't worry about your salary."
Some international schools in Delhi say that Teachers' salary is a major concern. Of course, all teachers love their students, and they love teaching them. But they also love and care for their family and kids back at home. They must be able to support, pay bills and feed their own family. Therefore, earning well does matter to teachers like any other job.
5. "I know this topic very well. I bet I can teach it as well as you."
There is a huge difference between knowing something and knowing how to teach it to others. As a teacher, just the subject knowledge isn't enough. You have to be patient, you have to be caring and understanding, and you have to be dedicated. For example, one may know how to play the guitar, but knowing how to teach it to others is a different thing altogether. Teaching is so much more than just knowing the subject!
6. "You can never be a good teacher because you don't have your own kids."
Because a teacher doesn't have children of their own doesn't imply that they are unequipped for bonding with and understanding their students at school. That is totally absurd. No one can tell why somebody hasn't had children yet, and it shouldn't be your concern at all. Such a statement is offensive, hurtful, and could be a sensitive matter.
7. "This job must be a cakewalk for you since you get summer vacations just like students."
A longer summer break is one of the perks of choosing teaching as a career. However, that doesn't undercut the long hours that they spend making lesson plans and correcting answer sheets or assignments. Being a teacher is a tough job, regardless of the summer vacation. Teachers spend weeks on professional development sessions and curriculum planning.
