In theory yes. In reality, I think they aren't all accurate. I decoded someone's medals (Alderton?) from an episode and it included a 1970's civilian emergency medic award.
matthew has two of the same medal and one i literally cant even figure out if its real or not in s1 and every day i go a little crazier over it. maybe they were just trying to beef up the awards to make him look more decorated and were just like....fuck it. or alderton is a time traveller.
that being said, matthew serving in africa has become such an integral part of my hcing of the character that it would have to be removed from my cold, dead hands.
