mello has lived in seven devils his entire life ; he has family from germany , but other than that ?? nowhere else .

what was your childhood like in seven devils?

mello can’t remember anything before the orphanage ; his parents , all he knows is that they were originally from germany & the headmistress of the orphanage was a close friend from germany , but that’s it , and that’s how it stayed until he decided to run away on his own at the age of sixteen - because relentless bullying & being reminded nobody wants you is a lot to deal with in the first decade of your life and then some .

where would people most likely find you in seven devils?

mello doesn’t really have a set place he likes to be ; he often sometimes travels around the rest of the city on his motorcycle , just to clear his head - maybe sometimes going to the dive bar if he needs to fill his stomach ( he can’t legally drink , and surprisingly , he’s adamant about not doing so until he’s twenty-one . ) he’s sort of a loner , sort of not - he won’t go with anyone , but he might talk with anyone there . 

V. A LITTLE HISTORY TO END ON

CANON ( SPOILERS FOR DEATH NOTE . )

It’s supposed to be a place where the children of the dead , unwanted , et cetera are cared for - but more so it’s a breeding ground for geniuses , raised and conditioned from the moment they walk through those doors to be the faces of a new dawn , or to live up to their poster child , the world’s greatest detective - L . Wammy’s House for Gifted Children ; that’s where Mello grows up . 

A hero-worship , one would call it , of the iconic detective is what he develops early on , and there’s motivation to strive to be just like him . Because someone is going to be his successor , and he wants that title to carry on his hero’s legacy . However . . . there’s an issue .

He strives and tries his best , yes , and he does amazing - but there is always one kid who seems to beat him at every test , every trial , and his name is Near and Mello grows up resenting him because he can’t seem to shake the “number two” title he gets with Near always in front of him . And it’s getting really goddamn annoying when you’re crying your eyes out in your little room because someone told you that you were so close to getting a higher score than him but , as always , you never make it . Because THAT’S the tragedy of being second best .

To say that Mello has a bit of an inferiority complex . . . would be an under-exaggeration . Because that’s what encompasses the most of his life - trying to be the best he could to eventually take that spot . And his motivation sits on a computer screen behind a a fancily font-ed  “ L ” . Hero worship never fades .

It leads to heartbreak when he’s young - fourteen , bright-eyed , and learning that the indestructible and undefeated L has fallen to a mass serial killer known as Kira . And his first question - “Who did he pick? Me or him?”

“He hadn’t chosen yet.”

“You could work together.”

And it’s a sneer that leaves his throat as the idea of working with his opponent is proposed , choosing to leave and instead find his own path . Because he WILL prove himself worthy , on his own , and take his place as L’s successor . 

Five years later , and he wants Kira’s head as his own . And he knows Near is looking for it , as well - so the competition starts up again .

He’s reckless - or more than so ; because he is not afraid to break the law by any means necessary to get what he wants . Joining the mafia , coaxing kira’s weapon into his hands by kidnapping the task force chief’s daughter & making the trade , using it to his advantage and figuring out how it works . Threatening the president into giving him resources to catch Kira . Negotiating with a god of death into confirming his theories .

Of course , the first incident leaves him scarred and burned , because his hideout’s raided by a SWAT team , so he sets off an explosion and that very same chief of police dies . He feels bad , because good people don’t deserve to die . . . but that’s the way things are , especially when you have a point to prove . The burn scar on his face & body shows enough that he’s hardened enough to survive such a feat .

The second incident is a bit different - after hiding out with one of the people under Near , and of course , confronting him one final time ( telling him his crucial discoveries to the Kira case ) , he enlists the third of L’s potential successors - and his best friend , Matt - to aid him . Together they deduce that the new L is the prime suspect for being Kira , and their plan to expose such is thrown into action by kidnapping a news reporter that is heavily close to him , and could be an accomplice . 

. . . It is a bloody day ; Matt dies in a blaze of gunfire as a distraction .

And by that news reporter’s pen & ink , Mello , in his own words post-mortem , dies like a dog in the truck he’s driving . A body never discovered as everything goes up in flames , yes his discoveries create the breakthrough that leads to Kira’s eventual demise - like a last laugh , if you will.

SEVEN DEVILS .

In a way , one could say there’s many similarities to this life & the other . A child of unwanted parents , tossed in an orphanage , leaves at sixteen after constantly being reminded and tormented that he isn’t wanted . 

Only issue is - how’s a young one to support himself in a city that chews its residents up and spits them out like flavorless gum ??

Crime . That’s the answer . 

It starts out in gangs , unaffiliated gangs that pay Mihael - or Mello , because names have power and he doesn’t need anyone else to have power over him - to do things such as steal , transport , smuggle , etc . And in turn , he crashes at their hideout , has food in his belly , et cetera .

But then those gangs get involved with larger syndicates , and it’s in an altercation that he’s discovered and one of the higher-ups in the Underworld recognizes raw talent from the way he fights and defends himself , negotiates with an unshaken bravery that only comes with being tossed around like you’re nothing . 

. . . He’s recruited in - taught to shoot a gun properly , snipe an enemy , and other ways to bloody his hands because he’s got the potential to be able to take a life for a price . And while he doesn’t enjoy the thought of murder on his conscience , he’s given a deal that all of his expenses will be paid for as long as he’s in service to the syndicate - shelter payment , a motorcycle he can ride , a salary for groceries and fees with every job for other things . And of course , tools he uses for the job . 

He’s a good assassin - sometimes , even used as more of a threatening messenger to pass along the words of the syndicate . Because he’s amazing at intimidation , negotiation , and getting his way . 

But there’s still a need to prove himself , because he wants the world to know he has the potential to be more than just a crime syndicate’s lackey . Maybe go out on his own - and take out the people who’ve used him here since he knows although they provide for him , he’s still expendable and he knows it . It forms a chip on his shoulder that he’s never going to be seen as much unless he proves that he’s dangerous to even the people who use him for so . 

It’s an endless desire to feel wanted , special , taken seriously as his own person . And that’s all he wants . Even if he has to bloody his hands & betray those who took him in ( can’t be out of the kindness of their hearts , can it ? ) to do so .

OTHER FACTS

OKAY SO LONG STORY SHORT IN SEVDEV Mello is an assassin for the Underworld who was taken in after his original gang got clapped and the whole reason he got into a life of crime was to escape homelessness . And now he’s . . . a very good assassin , and the Underworld pays for his living expenses , but he’s got a desire to grow past them since he knows they could take him out at any second and only view him as an underling and hoo boy , he’s not having that . Whether this means going out and starting his own gig or even playing into the hands of the enemy ?? Who knows . Mello hasn’t discovered this yet . But he wants to be taken seriously and he’s forming a plan on how .

He’s kind of a jack-of-all-trades in the Underworld - primarily an assassin but they also send him to do stuff like threaten a contact ( then kill if it doesn’t work ) , negotiate , etc . bc he’s really good at intimidation and he’s very smart but again , underestimated in the sense that he’s under their thumb and he can’t do anything about it - unless he goes out on his own plans . 

He doesn’t really have a stable home tho like he’s honestly kind of moving around physical places ( bc again it’s all paid for ) in different hotel rooms or motel rooms frequently bc living in one solid place isn’t the safest for him , he thinks . So he’ll rent out a place for maybe like a week or two weeks at max and sometimes even shorter if he’s feeling too at risk . 

Civilian cover story ?? He’s just ... a guy there isn’t much else else . He makes up a different story as to what his situation is every time and it ranges from “uh rich family” to “i have a sugar daddy” and a lot of times he has to move apartments so ppl don’t figure out his location ESPECIALLY if they have information on the Underworld .

He remembers ?? Some of his past like he remembers Near & Matt , and then the explosion that gave him the scar on his left eye . And also taking Takada on the motorcycle but none of what happens afterwards - doesn’t remember Matt dying & doesn’t remember himself dying .

ben was born in the capital where his mother worked as a senator. at the age of ten, he was promptly shipped off to boarding school which was run by his uncle luke. after a violent incident, he was expelled and booted off campus. devastated, the teenager ran off to seven devils under a new name, kylo ren.

as ben moved to seven devils, he was quickly recruited by the underworld as an apprentice to an arms dealer. the seventeen year old quickly learned the tricks of the trade, surpassing his master and making a name for himself. he now runs most of the major deals, with a group of fearful underlings at his beck and call.

where would people most likely find you in seven devils?

ben ren has his own hideout in the outskirts of the city under the guise of an abandoned warehouse.

ryoji has lived here his whole life, as far as he remembers. he doesn’t have many memories before the age of 10. sometimes he swears he remembers living on an island, but those must just be dreams.

what was your childhood like in seven devils?

taken in by the chosen at a young age, ryoji has had a pretty odd, yet comfortable life. it wasn’t necessarily a normal, happy childhood, but ryoji would never see it as anything but that. he’s a very optimistic kind of guy, and he loves the people who took care of him very much. he’s always been plagued by strange dreams, or maybe nightmares. they were of a blue haired boy and a red haired girl, and horrible never-ending darkness. he’s had these ever since he was young, but he tries to ignore them and the strange sad feelings he gets from them. he doesn’t like to dwell on sad things.

where would people most likely find you in seven devils?

school, around town, or at his job! he loves just people-watching and exploring different places, so he can be found around town pretty easily if you’re keeping an eye out for him and his often very bright yellow clothing.

to give you a quick run-through: this kid is literally Death incarnate. like, that’s not a metaphor or anything, he’s quite literally Death. he is a Shadow, a being created from humanity’s negative emotions. he, specifically, is created from the collective wish for the end of everything. he... basically exists to bring about the end of the world.

in this world, however, he remembers none of this- believing it all to be dreams and nonsense that he shouldn’t think too much about. it makes him sad and gives him killer headaches, so he’s decided not to acknowledge it one bit.

personality-wise, i’ve dropped little things throughout this intro, but to expand on that... he’s just a really sweet guy. he loves humanity, loves life, loves every living thing so much. he likes to flirt with just about anyone his age, just to joke around and see them smile. he loves to cheer up others and make people happy. for some reason, seeing some things make him feel so sad, but he tries to push down those sad emotions in favor of focusing on the good things.

sasha’s been living in the seven devils since she was twelve, when her father told her her greedy ways would kill them one winter and she needed to see the world. sasha figured he was tired of taking care of a girl with a never ending apetite that didn’t care for the others who chose to live like her father.

she lived in the backwoods her entire childhood, her father taught her to hunt and store game to last a whole winter, choosing to live a simple life and never engage himself in the outside world. sasha never cared for the outside world, like her father, she sobbed and pled the day he told her to leave or he’d shoot. after a few months, she found herself in the seven devils.

what was your childhood like in seven devils?

her first years were spent on the street - her education level was bare. her father taught her everything she knew, which was to read and write and kill game. she was alone for a long time, and due to the selfish nature her father kicked her out for, she was alone and accepted no help for long.

that was until she was found and taken in, for work. to be taught to be the best version of herself. a true killer. she feels like she’s spent most her life with the underworld, her bosses are her family. they let her work alone and let her insatiable hunger for food and security be fed. she’s stayed loyal to them and her work has gotten easier over time. at first, killing people felt like an impossible task. over time, it became her norm.

where would people most likely find you in seven devils?

business and uptown districts - you’ll find sasha at any and all fine dining experiences in the seven devils. the chefs adore her and if one were to guess, she worships them. she’s a glutton and can usually be found and convinced to have a meeting over a meal. on the other hand, she spends time in bars and when hammered enough, she’ll get burger shack and eat it on her way home.

sasha’s life in the seven devils mirrors her life on Paradis due to the simple and straightforward nature of who sasha is. 

she has been trying to rid her backwoods accent her father passed onto her since she moved to the city. only when she’s comfortable with someone (usually her coworkers) will she talk normally. 

she will eat any and everything. she has stolen food for survival in the past and hunted for her meals during childhood. she adores high quality cuisine and will sometimes steal the food out of her close friends house. she doesn’t care for cooking, just eating. she has cried intensly at amazing meals before and will again in the future. when people ask why she’s alive and what she lives for, it’s to have a full stomach.

light was born in tokyo , japan , up until age seven ; his mother , an entrepreneur of a sewing business , was encouraged to move to illinois to further her career to be in contact with another company who’d take her on . he & his sister would spend the rest of their childhood in seven devils . 

what was your childhood like in seven devils?

fairly average ; light was an incredibly good student , not necessarily popular but not necessarily an outcast , and while never having a very big circle of friends , he was friendly with many of his peers . but he was never into athletics or many extra-curricular activities - his hobby was working on computers , playing games or eventually teaching himself programming and code . 

where would people most likely find you in seven devils?

the common joke among the rest of the watch is light’s a homebody ; his favorite place to be ( where he works on his own terms ) is his single-family home in alexandria , living by himself . but he does go out a bit ! sometimes to the art gallery , gym , or aquarium to clear his head , maybe the bar or nightclub with other people , to enjoy life . but , sometimes he remains cooped up in the house doing god knows what , and he’ll go for what seems days if he’s off without giving any contact .

CANON . ( SPOILERS FOR DEATH NOTE )

Light Yagami used to be a good person . 

Keyword , used to be . 

But the moment he picked up the black notebook that fell from the sky ( dropped by a shinigami named Ryuk ) outside of his classroom window , the one labeled ‘Death Note’ , he forfeited his chances of living a normal human life & subscribed himself to becoming the terrifying figure that would eventually go down in history as Kira .

The Death Note is a notebook that can allow anyone who writes in it to kill another human as long as they know that person’s true name & face ; Light initially didn’t believe in it , but using the notebook and proving to himself its powers were true , he decided to use it to make a new world - a world where the scum of the earth were erased , only the good and kind people populating it . And he believed he could be the divine god passing judgement upon them - and these killings did not go unnoticed . As Kira gained popularity , he also gained infamy , and soon the police were on his trail - even the world’s greatest detective , L , becoming involved . 

L’s involvement & Light’s determination to eliminate him would extend to a cat-and-mouse chase , the two even becoming acquainted and the former heavily suspecting ( but being unable to physically prove ) Light as Kira . And in a twist of fate would Light eventually win the battle , with L’s death a marker of his victory . 

Of course , up until L’s successors became involved with Light & his infatuated accomplice , Misa Amane , acting as Kira together for five years . 

Near - a young boy with a genius level of intellect like L & Light himself - would be able to physically prove Light Yagami’s true identity as Kira , and in an effort to escape after already taking multiple gunshots to his body , Light would try to flee before Ryuk would write his name in his own Death Note - and Kira would disappear , but never to be forgotten by his followers . Kira was no longer a person at that point , Kira was an idea . 

And in truth . . . although the man physically died that day , the human that was Light Yagami - smart , just , kind , and compassionate - died years before as the self-righteous , evil , & manipulative Kira corrupted him .

SEVEN DEVILS .

Light Yagami , doe-eyed & sunshine smiled , is born to Sachiko & Soichiro Yagami in February 1997 in Tokyo . Soon after , three years later , his younger sister , Sayu , joins him - and he grows up for the first seven years of his life in Japan , before his mother’s blossoming career whisks the family to Illinois . 

Seven years old , arriving in Seven Devils . The irony .

He grows up like any other boy living in the United States ; he’s an extremely good student , always on Honor Roll and very rarely without straight A’s . Maybe in some cases he’s a Teacher’s Pet , but he’s also well-liked by his peers - not having more than a few close friends , but friendly with anyone he meets . He’s a good kid ; his parents are more than proud . 

He grows up on cartoons , homework , video games , and computers - the latter of the four taking his biggest interest . At fifteen , he’s lucky enough to get a summer job at a local candy store , and he spends his first paycheck on programming books . He can code like a champion by Christmas , and he’s gifted a shiny new watch & a brand new laptop by his parents .

He uses this laptop both for coding & gaming with friends ; he spends his winter break smiling and showing his sister how to make fun little simple whack-a-mole games and webpages . He’s always on his mic , laughing and joking with his friends on the other side of his online multiplayer games , until his mother will call him to set the table or his father will come in and he’ll sit down with his son , taking a crack at the game before Light laughs innocently as the character controlled dies in five minutes . 

Light Yagami is sixteen years old , laughing and smiling on his games , when he hears the glass window shatter and his father scream his name - his mother & sister aren’t home , but Light , horrified , runs to find his father . He’s shot in the back twice and loses consciousness as he sees his father’s wounded form trying to protect him .

‘ Seven Devils detective found dead in home , teenage son wounded . Watch has concluded the attack was a hit on the Yagami family patriarch . ’

Light Yagami is sixteen years old , waking up in a hospital bed when he learns his father , his hero , died shielding him from assailants on his home . 

Losing his father impacts the teenage greatly , and it’s obvious the smile he puts along his face is fake . He doesn’t grin as wide when he’s accepted into the college of his dreams , and he doesn’t feel the same whole joy during Christmas . 

What he does feel , however , is fear when two days before New Years , he’s cornered in an alley and nearly mugged by a common thug - he’s scared off by nearby watch members , but he drops a flash drive along the ground in his escape . Light , ever the curious one , picks it up , pockets it , and plugs it into his laptop when he gets home .

Files are flooded with information on local smaller gangs & criminals both detained and on the loose , and Light’s shocked to find that his mugger was a desperate information broker looking to find some cash . The unnoticed crimes and wrongs committed by the people in the files are disgusting , and Light , ever one without a plan , decides to take matters into his own hands - thinking of his passed father and wondering what he would do , and that’s what’s right . 

An anonymous email ( protected by a self-created VPN server ) sends the information out to multiple local private investigators , even making it out to social media platforms . And he takes it a step further - using the connections on the files in the flashdrive , he breaks his way into multiple of these gangs’ servers , devices , all with the programming & security he taught himself in his teenage years . 

Over time , over the course of a few weeks , a tireless teen leaks more and more information - before eventually , words of a hacking vigilante spreads around the city . Light overhears a few of his classmates talk about the new cyber “hero” , and with his next target , the next leak , he decides to take things even further up a notch .

A doxx of a small gang leader known for murder & blackmail is put on multiple social media channels , released through public servers - and the note that’s left along is it ,  ‘ Let it be known that the innocent have nothing to fear , but those who repeatedly threaten them know none of my kindness . I am Judgement , and I am always watching . ’

And that becomes the new epithet . As Light Yagami hears his classmates whisper such a name , he smiles to himself .

Over time , he grows in notoriety - among gang leaders , among syndicates . The young hacker ages and with age comes confidence , maybe even cockiness . And he grows more dangerous & ruthless the more he finds himself against worse and worse criminals . A common strategy is contacting and enlisting hitmen in exchange for favors or information , or the common ‘i won’t pay you but this guy will’ , which surprisingly works . Then of course those people , if Judgement deems them untrustworthy , are exposed , and the hacker who ‘only wishes to protect’ finds his hands growing bloodier and bloodier .

At least , that’s what he keeps telling himself . In a city ridden with crime , he’s doing what he knows how to do to try and bring back peace ; of course , that means now that there are people trying to beat Judgement at his own game - find him , or doxx him , break into his cyber defenses and eliminate him . Hits are placed on his head and a multitude of people wish for his demise , and he does his best to go after them as soon as they find him - because if something happens to him , his mission is failed , and that cannot happen .

As an honor to his father , he joins the watch as a detective - but more often than not , he’s the one they task with doing the most internal work . Desk job , going through files & tracking down addresses , putting the pieces together away from the action - he still is on the scene time to time , but Light is the one in the van , the man in the chair who does his work behind the curtain . He’s well-liked among his colleagues , and he’s known as perhaps the nicest person and one of the smartest .

But little do they know he is calculating , and he shows no mercy to those as Judgement . Judgement knows no kindness .

OKAY SO . Just some quick stuff .

If u know Death Note you know Light is nowhere near the kindest nor , uh , morally good person . I am toning him down quite a bit - but that’s okay , since it makes sense with the beauty of AU !! You can compare my portrayal a lot to a mix of “Light” and “Kira” - aka , he’s still ruthless on his targets and doesn’t hesitate to act on anyone in his way , but he actually still has a heart in there and it isn’t entirely corrupted . He isn’t entirely morally gone & actually gives a shit abt people and their feelings . It helps that the Death Note doesn’t exist and he’s a hacker instead of , uh , a serial killer . When Light gets his memories back , will he go completely off the goddamn rails again ?? Maybe . We do not Know . Maybe he’ll have an existential crisis , maybe he’ll be ‘ohoho time 2 be God again.’ We don’t Know .

Judgement is a relatively well-known name thrown around Seven Devils , but nobody knows his identity so all I ask as of right now is that nobody has yet deduced Judgement is Light Yagami ; of course this will happen in time with plotting !! But not right Now .

That being said I’m totally fine ( and encourage ! ) y’all to have your muses know of Judgement and have their own opinions on him & his operation - whether they’re in one of the crime syndicates and want to try and enlist him , or want him discovered and dead , or just a civilian who either supports or condemns what he does . Because some people want him on their side , some want him dead , some think he’s doing good for SevDev and others think he’s just as bad as the people he’s going after because it is known some of his targets end up dead whether it’s people who support him going after them in his name or other things & also bc like . He doxxes these criminals and puts their information out there instead of letting the watch handle it ethically .

He does get into contact with other people and it is possible to contact him via his anonymous sources ! Nobody can trace these contact sources back to Light Yagami but if you know someone that knows someone who knows how to get in touch with Judgement ( it’s a hidden website + entering a password thing where you can email or request a voice convo where Light’ll have his voice hidden akin to how the ‘real’ Kira was broadcasted in response to the Second Kira’s tapes - like L’s voice masking ) you can get into contact with him . He will never work with you though . If you try and get him to give you information he’ll either trick you into doing ‘business’ with him first by giving him sources and giving him information before going back on his word and screwing you over by exposing you or just . Flat out exposing you . But normally he’ll try and get something out of you first . 

I hope . . . I explained a lot of his hacker things well bc the rest is just typical fictional hacker stuff , knowing binary & being a computer / IT wizard & getting and storing information in secure secret .

audrey has lived in seven devils for most of her adult life. she was born in seven devils, then lived in new york for a while when she was younger, but wanted to get out of there as soon as she could. unfortunately, she ended up back here, which is not exactly where she wanted to be.

what was your childhood like in seven devils?

bad. her father left her and her mother almost right after she was born, and her mother wasn’t exactly well off after that. she didn’t really take care of audrey. audrey really had to fend for herself for most of her life, until she entered the world of dating and let herself rely on the men she got with. who were often… uh… terrible people.

where would people most likely find you in seven devils?

during the day, she can often be found at the flower shop she works at, and at night, the bar she works at. other than that, she often goes to parks just to sit and daydream and write down her thoughts in a little notebook she carries.
