one thing I deeply appreciate about severance as a show is the way it trusts its audience and respects its intelligence. they don't do that quick flashbacks sequence to remind you of something once a reveal is made. Irving's "hang in there" to Dylan is not replayed or echoing as Dylan approaches that painting and finds the note. because it trusts that you picked up on it, or will do so on a rewatch, making that experience even better. same with the Helena reveal, it might have been obvious to some, but to others, they can go back and rewatch and pick up on all the little oddities in her behavior instead of the show showing you quick flashing images of her struggling to find the on switch or the lack of ding in the elevator etc etc. not a lot of shows have that kind of faith in their audiences and it's really beautiful

obsessed with the claustrophobic feel of the show being turned to eleven in the new episode. starting with Mark running and lost in the narrow, barren hallways he used to navigate with relative ease, the ball game being held at a cramped table where everyone is sitting close together instead of the way it was in s1 with the chairs spread apart. and most importantly, we never leave the severed floor even for a single second. the farthest we go is the elevator, the only glimpse we get of outtie Mark is a blank expression. which leaves us unable to tell what really happened out there or if five months have truly passed. or if Mark's even allowed to leave at all to begin with

my working theory had always been that Gemma did in fact get into an accident and her state was perfect for whatever Lumon wanted to do with her so they took her from the hospital bed. and Mark either so happened or was subtly nudged into getting severed. but the the company's insistence on having him get back to work, on giving him all these accomodations including the team he pleases because apparently he's the only one who can finish whatever Cold Harbor is. well it all makes me wonder if they set up Gemma's "accident" in the first place to begin with
