SET JET: TWISTER HILL FROM THE MOVIE “TWISTER” - Pilot Mound, Iowa. Remember that one scene in the 1996 blockbuster tornado-chasing Hollywood action film “Twister” where meteorologists Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt fail to release the Dorothy tornado sensors and they have a ridiculous relationship argument while the sensor modules scatter-about everywhere amidst the atmospheric chaos? They filmed that right here, on 130th Street near Pilot Mound - just past the Des Moines River. Folks call it “Twister Hill” or “Hail Hill” now and official signs aid in pointing out this small Iowa town’s cinematic claim-to-fame.
