Drabble #416
VI: characters watch TV together
“If MJN was a police station,” said Arthur thoughtfully, “It would be a little bit like this one.”
Martin nodded, pleased. “With a very organised captain who knows how important it is to go by the book.”
Arthur hummed. “I was actually thinking Captain Holt is sometimes like Mum,” he said, “But I mainly meant the way everyone’s friends.”
“And let us not forget the annual heist,” Douglas added. “Birling Day is to MJN as Halloween is to the Nine Nine.”
“How long until take-off, Skip?”
“Twenty-eight minutes.”
“Brilliant! We should be able to squeeze in one more episode, then.”
Dice Set #42: Transparent Sunset
Bonus: This is my set with a mis-matched d4 (You can kind of see it in the photos above, but here's a closer look):
Drabble #420
X: characters go on a holid[a]y
She was actually letting him book flights!
Herc felt almost giddy with glee, and not just because of the drinks they’d shared that evening. Mostly it was utter smugness: Carolyn had actually agreed to going away together, for a proper ‘couple’ holiday, like people who actually admitted they were in a relationship might do. Imagine that!
Of course the agreed-upon dates were still months away, so there was plenty of time for her to pull out or stage a sudden realisation about an incredibly important job whose memo Arthur had erroneously erased from the board.
But Herc was hopeful, nonetheless.

Drabble #415
V: characters are moving in together
“It still feels like sacrilege,” Carolyn remarked. “I know – it’s stupid.”
“No,” said Douglas, “I know exactly what you mean. We’ve anthropomorphised her all this time...”
Arthur batted aside one of the numerous balloons he’d tied to the handle of his drinks trolley. “What does anthro... what does that mean?”
“It means we thought of Gerti as a human being, in some ways,” Douglas explained. “So moving into Gerti Two...”
“Is giving Gerti a nice rest in her old age,” said Arthur, comfortably, gesturing to where the original Gerti still stood. “Aaaand! Now we can put them in a line.”
Drabble #417
VII: characters share breakfast
Breakfast at the palace was certainly an event.
“The jam,” Arthur said, in a hoarse whisper of awe. “It’s in... a thing.”
“Don’t stare,” Carolyn said, nudging him.
“I can’t not stare,” he protested. “This is better than any hotel we’ve ever been in.”
“That’s because every hotel you’ve ever been in was booked by your mother,” Douglas said with a twinkle in his eye.
Carolyn lamented being stood too far away from him to be able to deliver a similar quieting nudge.
“Come on,” she hissed, “Get your plates, and let’s not make fools of ourselves, for a change.”
Drabble #414
IV: characters prepare a dinner for friends
“This was a terrible idea,” said Carolyn, actual worry seeping into her usual dry pessimism. “Arthur can’t even look after himself in the kitchen, let alone supervise the children.”
“Well, exactly,” Douglas said, not sounding in the slightest bit concerned. “If he’s going to chop anyone’s finger off, it’ll be his own. The girls will come out entirely unscathed.”
“Aida knows she isn’t allowed to go near sharp knives,” added Martin. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she forbids Arthur, too.”
“Which leaves Verity,” Douglas finished, “Who’s an old pro. She takes after me.”
“What, ‘old’, you mean?” asked Herc innocently.
