   she thunders her way along creaky floorboards, butting her head against the door to gert’s nest until it opens and she can walk across the room. she spits her prize onto the bed, a shiny rock she found outside, and bangs her tail against the floor happily. she’s proud of herself. she thinks gert will be too. 

“ now gertie… you know i can’t do that.   i can do some of it… i can leave you alone.    I’VE GOTTEN BETTER AT SITTING QUIETLY but  –   i refuse to go anywhere. you couldn’t drag me away. “

eliza sat on a rolling stool, gertrude up on the examination table.  “ okay but before you think about it again– like, tell me if you’re going to throw up. way to much info right now, i’m your doctor but…..  still can’t get with the whole PUKE situation.   i’ll get you a bucket.    and you can tell me WHY YOU THINK you’re getting sick. i can tell when someone has been around.       i mean… i don’t mean that in a bad way just that you said GETTING sick instead of feeling therefore i’m assuming that you know that you’re going to get sick which means you might already know the reason why.    so….. spill the beans. “

he knows what she means.   chase thought he had a real life until he got closer to gert.    HE BELIEVED ALL THE SOCIETAL STANDARDS.     he was a jock.   he chased skirts.   he punched people.     he was all the stereotypes you grow up being told to be as a young man.    HE THOUGHT his parents acted like they were supposed to.   NOTHING ABOUT HOW HIS DAD treats him.   chase didn’t think about it because it’s the reality he was told to have.   “ i don’t want to go back into the matrix, gert.     i’d rather be a runaway with you than JOCK JAMS with the cookie cutter life.    THIS IS REAL.   we’ll figure the rest out as we go. “

"first  captain  america,  then  his  wartime  buddy,  and  now  an  actual  dinosaur.  wow.  seems  like  the  world  has  a  lot  more  living  fossils  than  it  had  ten  years  ago."  tony  tucks  his  sunglasses  into  a  pocket,  though  the  perplexed  expression  remains.  there's  a  reasonable  distance  between  him  and  the  growling  dinosaur,  one  that  he's  more  than  happy  to  maintain,  and  he  shifts  his  gaze  to  gert  instead.  "and  you  said  she  listens  to  you?"

“ sweetheart, listen.      just because we went on a break DOESN’T mean you get to keep referring to yourself as my NEW girlfriend.          and i was washing my hands. “

   Quickly breaking free of the grip, Griffin spun around and took off running. They called after him and Griffin hugged the side of the building as he made his escape, fingers trailing along the bricks as he turned down another alley only to crash full speed into someone in his path. He fell back and sprawled across the pavement. “Ohh... ow.” Calloused fingers reached back and held his head. “––my bad. Didn’t see you there.”
