so, Jue had boiling water thrown at hir as a young child, right. Hence the burn. The original theory was that hir stepfather Serip was the main target of the attack and it was by Sisiban agents after the Sisiban revolution (as Serip was originally a Sisiban prince), and Jue still thinks that was the case because no one bothered to update hir/it’s more useful for Jue to believe that/Serip first thought ze was too young to explain ableism to and then Raiqiongshē “wanted to spare hir the knowledge”, but it turned out the attack was actually ordered by someone Rāmian (likely a courtier) who was noooot interested in eventually being ruled by someone with Jue’s “weak genes” and intellectual disability and wanted to- if not kill hir- at least make a point. *Paona,* of course, knows the truth and thinks Jue does too, and upon finding out ze doesn’t, secretly tells hir, because she considers her loyalty to be to Jue above even Raiqiongshē and Neqio because that is how it needs to be as hir consort (although, Paona’s mother and Raiqiongshē are not necessarily aware of this). But at the time Jue is kidnapped ze is probably very scared of rebels regardless of nationality or group affiliation- it is a very early, very scary memory and ze rarely gets hurt at all and definitely not like that (which also contributes to hir reaction to Fiitsãn kind of siding with the TLF in the aftermath of Inoj’s death, regardless of if ze knows the truth by then).
