maybe I need to write more of Mason's excellent poems <- I haven't read your work yet (soon!) so I can't help but wonder if this is sarcastic 👀
ahahaha - I've written Mason reciting stupid dirty poems he wrote himself in two fics now. Below the cut if you'd like the excerpts
How do you manage outlining a longer writing project? And how do you keep up motivation for the actual writing after the outline is done?
What a timely question anon!
First - I have no one set method for outlining. I try something new, I learn, I see what works and what doesn't. I DO like to have a rough outline all figured out before I sit down and start writing, but as I get better at structure and plotting, the outline often has some flexibility along the way.
My brain also just tends to work in longer writing projects - I usually have a decent idea of where a character is starting from and where I want them to end up and that kind of change just takes a while.
For Routine Body Maintenance, I didn't actually expect it to be a longer work. My original plan was to fill in plot moments for Kat and Mason and thread how I wanted their relationship to develop through the existing story line. But it brought up some interesting things to play around with (memory, the barrier, etc). I do have an ending outlined for that, but its completely canon divergent.
As for motivation... It was definitely more motivating releasing fanfic chapters serially and getting lovely comments along the way than writing original work! For that, I just made it routine. I made the time a priority, got up early so I could have about an hour to write daily, set word count goals and tried to hit them. There were days when things flowed and days when it sucked, but it got it done eventually!
Top 5 books? (Or movies, if you're not a reader)
I am more of a reader than a movie watcher but porque no los dos?
Movies:
Ok so in making this list I realized that I am completely drawn to movies that aren’t just a visual way of telling a story but use the medium to create a visual language. Usually kind of odd or eerie or a bit unsettling, with so much symbolism.
(in no particular order)
The Last Unicorn - apparently this was my fav movie when I was five. I have no recollection of this. When I rewatched it as an adult, it sure hit different. Gorgeous background animation and I love that the older female character gets to have an adventure too.
The Cell - visuals that rewired my brain
What Dreams May Come - I sob every time I watch this.
Harold and Maude - odd dark comedy from the 70’s - sad, weird, human, ultimately kind of hopeful. Awesome soundtrack by Cat Stevens.
Pan’s Labyrinth
Bonus: Lord of the Rings trilogy for the nostalgia
Second Bonus: my favorite movie I haven’t yet seen: The Fall (it’s been recommended to me so many times, and has the same director as the Cell) I really need to watch it.
(Okay I’ve spent so long on this - books are coming in a second post haha)
Didn’t really realize how close I toed the line of total burnout this holiday season between work and other life stuff until I couldn’t do or focus on or make an effort to do ANYTHING for the last two weeks.
Finally feeling more like my usual self today and grateful for it. Might even actually do some writing

i am just so overjoyed to see you! 💕 i am loving hunger so much. love kat x mason x nate and all the fics you’ve written for them. what inspired you to bring the three of them together? (~agentnatesewell)
Aww - it’s seriously so nice to be back and interacting with all you wonderful people again. I think I got kinda burnt out and lonely working on original writing and writing for Wayhaven again has been a joy.
I’m trying to remember what sparked the trio… I think it was partly that the more I wrote Nate in Routine Body Maintenance the more I loved him and there kept being these little moments of “what if” between him and Kat. Even if it was only in my drafts. Since RBM is definitely only staying as Mason/Kat, I needed an alternate outlet for my need to see Nate horny and desperate. But the more I worked on it, the more sense they all made together ❤️
Read any good books or watched any shows recently? Also how are you today! I hope you're doing well!
Thanks for asking lovely! I am well today. My DnD group is coming over soon and we’re going to resolve last sessions (probably bad) decision to shoot a sleeping dragon.
I’ve been watching Misfits with my partner lately - a rewatch for me and first time for him. I wanted to see how they wove in a subplot for some original writing I’m working on because I remember it blowing my mind the first time I watched it. Also Robert Sheehan is absolutely hilarious in it.
I set a goal to read two books a month this year and did well until May. Last thing I read was Bury our Bones in the Midnight Soil by VE Schwab which I liked, though I wanted to like it more. On the other hand, I’m still thinking about it, so that’s something too!
