serawyn embereye, née rimefleur, the last oracle of kel'theril, keeper of the winterspring. serawyn comes from a lineage that originates from the ancient city of kel'theril. her ancestors were among the minority that protested the stealing of the crystal of zin-malor, predicting its devastating impact on the people of kel'theril, but their warnings were not heeded, and the city was cursed for its arrogance. the ancient rimefleurs, too, were cursed, and the city was only freed when the crystal was mercifully destroyed by the sundering. those rimefleurs that survived both horrors would ultimately become part of the kaldorei that left kalimdor and became quel'dorei.
the rimefleur legacy is one of the few that has remained largely unchanged by the cultural shifts of the quel'dorei and later sin'dorei, focused on more traditionally kaldorei practices, like reverence for the moon and its subjects, including the water. rimefleur oracles have used lakes, rivers and oceans since time immemorial to catch glimpses of the future, and historically have been advisors, prophets and counselors in quel'thalas. the bloodline was thought to be lost completely when the scourge attacked, as all its living members were either killed or missing—and serawyn was very much dead, but she was also raised into the scourge's army, only escaping the lich king's power when the prisoners of a quel'thalassian ship she and a regiment had taken over wrested control from the scourge and, in time, managed to restore the undeads' sensibilities.
her being alive—after a fashion, anyway—was only discovered by silvermoon early in legion, however, as that ship had run aground in stormheim and its passengers remained on the broken isles ever since. her return to silvermoon was celebrated, and her endorsement of raein and velerith as being good candidates to restore the embereye legacy to its former, untarnished glory has carried them farther than perhaps any other single word or action. in fact, their appeals to the magisters of silvermoon probably wouldn't have been so much as humored if not for serawyn.
due to how dangerous winterspring was and has always been, between blue dragons and saber cats, it has been a long held tradition that rimefleurs would choose knights to protect their scrying lakes, gifting them a piece of enchanted ice cut into the shape of a flower that would prove their loyalty to the rimefleurs and, by extension, to the water itself. it is said these knights had incredible abilities, such as being able to breathe underwater or even control the waves themselves—but that's probably just a bit of flavorful folklore.
