And now I can tackle this one. I didn’t answer before cause I was just on 7x04, or so.

I mean it’s quite similar, the argument is the same: both men thought they were going to get killed, not another person. So, I’m not as hard as I could be with Richard about what happened, or I wouldn’t be, if it wasn’t for the differences between what he did and what Daryl did. Which are mainly two: intention and timing.

What Daryl did, was a thing he had like two minutes to think about, being scared, shocked and wounded, both physically and emotionally. He didn’t plan to get himself or anybody else killed beforehand. He didn’t know the saviors very well, and certainly he didn’t know Negan, so his ability to predict an unexpected result of his actions, was limited. So, knowing it would never be his intention to kill a member of his family, or even kill unnecesarily (he spared Dwight and Sherry), and knowing he didn’t have the time, nor the knowledge to predict an unpredictable result, yes, I think he’s not to be blamed for Glenn’s death. Negan did it, Negan did it, Negan did it, and knowing Negan, we can say he enjoyed it, and he actually wanted to have an excuse to kill another person. He’s a sadist, period.

You know what was a stupid thing Daryl did? Go to the woods, searching for Dwight. That was pointless, and irresponsible, but again, he couldn’t predict it would end up with his friends captured, and he tried to help them.

Richard is not mainly guilty for Benjamin’s death etiher. That savior guy killed Benjamin. But there’s an element of premeditation in his actions that could’ve been avoided. He knew the saviors better, he knew how they react, and even so, he planned this thing, knowing he was risking more people than only himself. Everybody could’ve been hurt or killed, and he knew it very well, cause he had time to think about it. He planned this behind everybody’s back, which was disrespectful at least.

Regarding premeditation, there was a precedent about Richard’s machiavellian view of things. He intended to sacrifice Carol before. Then he tried to sacrifice himself, good thing, but then, when it didn’t happen, Benjamin’s death proved very useful for him. And I know he was supposedly serving a greater good, a noble cause, like any other national hero would. But there was this machiavellian element, and this... delusional, egocentric element as well, like “I will be a hero”, that rubbed me the wrong way. Do you watch Outlander? Well, Richard was more like Dougal, while Rick is more like Jamie, facing the fight, but doing whatever he could to keep his people safe. (I recommend Outlander heartily). Anyway, he was expecting to get something from Benjamin’s death. That doesn’t apply to Daryl.
