Do you think inconsistencies in TV shows and movies, are a character's cry for help, like "NO, STOP! LOOK WHAT THE WRITER IS TRYING TO MAKE ME DO?". The characters become real, because we believe in them, and thus whenever their characterization is messed up, we notice because of their cry for help.
In Sherlock, I was so confused when Irene Adler said "Well I am", implying that she was a lesbian
(John Watson: Who the hell knows about Sherlock Holmes, but... for the record, if anyone out there still cares — I'm not actually gay.
Irene Adler: Well, I am. Look at us both.)
But then she "falls" for Sherlock.
Maybe.....the confirmation that she was, in fact, gay...was a cry for help..
It's a creepy, creepy theory.
