#2895 - Semnopithecus entellus - Bengal Sacred Langur
AKA northern plains gray langur and Hanuman langur.
Another primate from India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan ( but it's not like I'll be writing about any from Australia).
Sacred Langurs eat fruit, leaves, buds, some insects, stolen crops, and temple offerings - the species is sacred in Hindu religion. That doesn't stop them from being hunted for food in some areas, or shot to keep them away from crops. In Dehli captive Langurs are used to chase off Rhesus Macaques. Despite it being illegal to keep them captive.
Troops may be over a hundred individuals in size, but most are smaller, and vary widely in the ratio of males to females.
Pushkar, Rajasthan, India.
