“Hey Nico.” Percy said, getting up from his comfortable chair. “Let’s take a walk okay? We need to talk.”
What he told was not I had been expecting to hear. The words bouncing around my skull. But the only ones I zeroed in on were that my little sister was dead. She was supposed to be immortal but she was dead.
“She wanted you to have this.” Percy handed me a figurine. Mythomagic. Ironically it was the only I didn’t have. Hades. She had died trying to give me a gift.
“You promised you would protect her.” I accused, staring up at the older demigod. I ignored his wince. He should feel guilty. He broke his promise and now Bianca was dead. I was never going to see her again.
“You promised!” I yelled, glaring at him. “I should have never trusted you! My nightmares were right!”
“Wait...what nightmares?”
I ignored that too, clenching my fist around the statue. I could feel the skull ring pressing hard against it. The last reminders I had of her. The tears built up behind my eyes but I didn’t dare let them fall.
“She was only 10 years old! This was her first quest! Why did you let her do it?”
Even as I shouted, logically I knew that there wasn’t a thing he could have done to stop her. Bianca was headstrong and stubborn. But I was still angry.
“I won’t forget this. You let her die.” I glared one last time before running off into the woods. Let the monsters try and get me. I didn’t care.
