I am finally here in Malaysia, visiting my beloved relatives and catching up whatever we have missed during this covid period.
How I used to take regular travel for granted? I would make impromptu trips across the border at the drop of a hat. So much has changed now... pcr tests.. travel insurance (I've NEVER purchased travel insurance for trips to Malaysia, I mean, it's just my backyard) and having to report my ART self tests for 6 days (including two tests that have to be done at a clinic).
So much has changed, and yet, not much has changed. My beloved periamma is still the same person. Age is catching up and her health is not the best, and yet, she welcomed me in her embrace just as she had done when I was small.
The quaint little neighbourhood that my periamma and periappa live in has undergone many changes.. A small forest was cleared to make way for a row of shophouses, really a pity, but that's how it is.. We embrace change. We learn to live with it. We accept that change happens.
It was a good weather day in Kuantan, an unusual break during the monsoon season. I couldn't help but be awed by the endless blue sky dotted with soft, pillowy clouds, and the stark contrast of yellow concrete against it.
Oh Kuantan, you show me something new each time.
