Sense of Safety
Scenario: Bree just wants to feel safe enough to close her eyes and rest, so she goes to Selwyn.
Bree's POV:
I can't sleep. Every. Single. Night. I cannot sleep.
Every time I try to close my eyes and get just a small amount of rest, I picture something terrible happening to either me or my loved ones..and there's nothing that I can do about it. Sometimes it's someone trying to kill me (which is pretty on par for my life currently). Other times it's someone targeting my dad, Alice, William....and Sel.
I wake up in a terror, and next thing you know, I'm too scared to fall asleep again. It's the same cycle.
~~~
However, tonight I've decided to try something different. Something that I may end up backing out of last minute like the scaredy cat that I am.
I'm in front of Sel's bedroom door, pacing. Mainly because I'm debating if I even want to knock or not.
Honestly, I'm not too sure why my feet traveled here anyway...
Okay, that's a complete lie. I know exactly why I'm here. Because Sel makes me feel safe and that's what I need most right about now.
He's protected me from danger countless amounts of time...maybe he can save me from my own mind?
I know it's stupid, and he'll probably think it's stupid too, so I might as well-
Just then, I was interrupted by the door opening, and Selwyn appearing.
~~~
"Bree? Are you okay?" Sel asks with mostly concern, laced with a hint of amusement.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. I was just going to the bathroom. Guess this was the wrong door." I hurriedly say, turning towards the direction of my bedroom, "My bad, I'll just be going no-"
Selwyn reaches out and gently grabs my wrist. "I've listened to you pace back and forth outside my door for the past few minutes," he continues, "Briana, what's the matter?"
Should I tell him? I don't really think I should...
"Bree, please..."
Okay fine. "I've been having trouble sleeping and I was wondering if..."
"If what, mystery girl?"
How do I phrase this? Is bluntness or caution the way to go?
"Can I come inside? With you?" I end up blurting out. When I get no response immediately, I begin to start back tracking, "I mean, I can sleep on the floor... I just feel a bit safer with you around. That's all. If you're uncomfortable, I can go back to my room. That's fin-"
This time, I'm cut off by Sel's hand sliding from my wrist to my hand. He interlocks his fingers with mine, walks me into his room, and shuts the door behind us with his unoccupied hand.
Together, we make it to his bed, and he removes his hand from mine to pull back his covers.
"You can always come to me, Briana. You never have to have an excuse." He assures me, his voice completely serious. "Now, lay down."
I follow his orders, watching as he pulls the covers over me and fluffs my pillow. Then, unexpectedly, he gets into the bed on the side opposite of me.
I turn on my side, facing away from him, and close my eyes.
Suddenly, I feel Sel's arm slide around my stomach, pulling me back towards his chest.
"Goodnight, love." He murmurs.
I went to sleep flustered, but I had no nightmares. That was a best night's sleep that I've had in weeks.
