Della was absolutely head over heels for Penny when they first met. But, Penny hated her guts and Della needed to be home with her kids. It was one of those relationships where the possibility will always be in the back of her mind, but eventually she'll move on. She'll appreciate what she has on Earth, and she'll always appreciate Penny.

Penumbra falls in love once Della leaves. She realizes how much Della actually cared about getting to know her, and she regrets being so hard on her. She reminisces and wishes to try again. When she finally finds her again on Earth, she's love-struck, she can't help falling hard.

But, Della no longer harbors romantic feelings towards her. That ship has sailed. Penny's world is crushed; however, Della still wants to be her friend. She still loves her-- not how Penumbra wants, but friendship is just as important and special.

They have such a healthy friendship. It's fun, a little dangerous at times with Della's adventuring and Penny being a warrior from the moon. Della often encourages Penny to try dating someone-- even offering to set her up. But, Penny's not ready to move on from the possibility of dating Della, even if all the signs are pointing to this only being platonic.

Eventually, Della finds someone, she falls in love. It's not Penny, but she's happy for her best friend nonetheless. While she's trying to get over it, she just so happens to meet a goddess...
