I know you donβt ship spuffy. Personally I will always prefer bangel and I always thought spike was more enjoyable as a character before he fell in love with Buffy. Like imo him and Dru had some of the funniest scenes so I was wondering even tho you donβt like spuffy, do you like spike as a character?
Oh wow I actually love this question. I feel like a lot of Spuffy shippers assume that the Bangel shippers all hate Spike and thatβs definitely not the case. I found Spikeβs character to be intriguing and I always enjoyed his screen time. He has this really unique sense of humor and for a demon, he has a very layered personality. Like when he comes back in 3x08 and is talking to Joyce about Dru and he asks for the little marshmallows shjgdhjdgjhd. I donβt mindΒ SpuffyΒ as a platonic ship. I think they worked really well together, even when they both hated each other. I couldβve maybe gotten on board with Spuffy in some capacity if episodes 7-22 of season 6 didnβt exist. Itβs just complicated because I do think it makes sense that Spike fell in love with Buffy because he was unusually fixated on her. Even in season 2 which is when heβs considered theΒ βbaddestβ (seeing as he really only serves as an antagonist) he still dedicates so much of his time to trying to kill her and even Dru is just likeβ¦ ok? And heβs always calling her gorgeous in season 4 and heβs constantly obsessing over herβ¦ So in season 5 when they show him imagining having sex with her I wasnβt really shocked. (I also knew it was gonna happen eventually though sjhdgjshgd) I do think that his feelings for Buffy did help his character growth and I think she was good for him. But the wholeΒ βgirl finds a bad boy, tries to fix him up and save himβ is just so overplayed and something I wish the writers had been smart enough to avoid. Also the fact that they totally regressed Buffyβs character in order to serve as a catalyst of growth for Spike.
So to answer your question, I do like Spike hjdgahjgd. And yes I do think he was a better character before his love for Buffy but I also do think he was an entertaining character after that, too (excluding season 6 tho bc YIKES) THIS WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE. God itβs so hard for me to really express my thoughts on Spuffy and Spike in general bc thereβs just a lot going on there
