You’re crying softly in your bed one night when you hear your closet door creek open. 

“H-hello? Who’s there…” you sniffle out

You hear the footsteps walk closer to the edge of the bed. You turn on the lamp next to your bed and see a figure standing right next to your bedside. You try to make out the face but you can barely see past the tears.

“Are you okay sweetheart?” A hushed voice whispered out. Softly soothing you despite the fearful situation.

And yet instead of screaming, you crumble. Crying harder than you were before you collapsed into them, holding onto their shoulders.

They wrapped their arms around you and brought you closer, letting you sob into their chest.

"shh... it's alright now..."

They held you for hours, whispering comforting things to you and reassuring you that you were safe now. They were there. It didn’t matter who they were, since you never felt so loved before. 

The person didn't leave your side all night. They sat next to you in the bed and held your hand, humming a quiet song and stroking your hair, waiting for you to fall asleep.

Once they were sure you were asleep, they slipped away from the bed and left your apartment. Not before they left a gentle peek on your forehead however.

The next morning, you awoke with a sense of hopefulness and happiness, and couldn’t help but think about how great it was to be held like that last night. How you wanted to be held again.  How you hope it wasn’t just a dream.

You have felt alone for years, yet last night, for the first time, you felt like someone actually cared.

And if it was your stalker... well then, maybe they weren’t so bad after all. Maybe, just maybe, there was someone out there who could love you for you.
