I'm half-deaf. My entire family was hearing, and they never got me to learn ASL etc. Hearing aids don't even help what I have, so I've always gotten by on fragments and I have to guess maybe 30-80% of a conversation (depending if the other person mumbles or if there's noise or whatever). What I'm wondering now is, this obviously isolated me quite a bit, and I've never felt fully comfortable in social environments because of it. Do you think this could lead to SPD? (Because I am schizoid.)
From what Iāve heard, schizoid personality (as well as all schizo- spectrum) has a strong genetic component. But it is debatable whether this genetic predisposition could manifest anywhere on the spectrum depending on a various events in personās life experience.Ā
Meaning, one might be schizoid from birth, but will they get a fully manifested schizoid PD, schizotypal PD, schizophrenia, etc... or maybe theyāll be just āhigh-functioningā (donāt quite like this term, but for the lack of a better one) schizoid or schizotypal without any disorder. That will depend on something along the way through their childhood, up to 20-something.Ā
Iām trying to say, according to this theory itād be possible that what you describe could lead you to having a schizoid personality disorder. But for that youād have to be somewhere on the spectrum to begin with, i.e. to have this genetic component. But of course I wouldnāt bet this theory is 100% accurate.Ā
Also there is a possibility you arenāt schizoid and itās just that the combination of all your own personality characteristics affected by your unique experience ended up being similar to what schizoid personality looks like. I wouldnāt know it, of course, since I donāt know you, anon. :) But you know yourself, so itās something only you can tell after learning more about all this psychology stuff and analyzing all the data you have (or after giving this data to someone who is already pro in it so they can analyze it for you).
