Has anyone else here ever wanted a canon/existing character to be your self-insert for something, or even like âclaimedâ the character âas a self-insertâ
Is this just how kinning works (I am saying this flippantly but also with some genuineness)

I remember really liking the idea of making this render, but trying to get the lighting to work well was a much more difficult task than anticipated. ..and the posing to try and make it look like weâre holding hands. A lot of it was tricky, really. Hopefully itâs still alright, though ^-^
Reblogs would be appreciated, but are by no means required! There is also another picture under the readmore, if youâre curious~
Here is a close-up of the above picture, just so you can see the expressions a bit better:
(Fun fact, the very centre of the full render is where Luna and Adri are holding hands.
..Please ignore the fact that Lunaâs hair is clipping through the ground.)
Sapphire, Pyra, Mythra, Nia and Poppi spend an evening relaxing together in Mor Ardainâs famous hot springs, where a couple of secrets begin to reveal themselves. In the process, Pyra makes an important decision. (1650 words)
Replaces the XC2 cutscene âSecret in the Springsâ from the start of Chapter 4.
Content warning for some description of an old significant physical injury.

This is a piece I originally posted to my old blog, but Iâve updated it slightly to reflect some changes to the storyline and figured it would be good to post again! Donât worry, itâs mostly much happier than the previous writing I posted here - especially once you get to the end, hehe~
Reblogs are appreciated, but by no means required! Comments should be on, and thereâs also a transcript of the document under the readmore!
The sandstorms from earlier in the day had thankfully settled down - the evening was still very warm, but a soft wind drifting through Alba Cavanich made the heat much more pleasant. Behind the inn that rested on SmĂčide Mountain, the group had taken the opportunity to relax in the local hot springs - Rex and Tora had gone earlier in the evening and appeared much more refreshed for the experience, but now it was the ladiesâ bathing slot, and all of them were eager to spend the evening enjoying a relaxing bath together.
Sapphire in particular was not used to the arid conditions on Mor Ardainâs Titan, given that her homeland within Uraya was a much more subdued and watery kingdom, so she also relished the opportunity to try out the hot springs. By the time she had gotten ready, Poppi was already happily playing about in the springs, while Nia had her back to the entrance and only her head was above the water. Finally, Sapphire tentatively poked her head around the corner of the changing room, so that it was all that could be seen from within the baths themselves.
âItâs just us here, right?â
âYeah, donât worry!â Nia turned her head to smile, though Sapphire did think she looked somewhat nervous. âThe inn seemed pretty much empty when we first got here, so I donât reckon anyone elseâll be coming in.â
Poppi nodded in agreement. âProbability of interruption from other people very small. Therefore, is perfect time for all to enjoy springs together. The water very nice temperature, even for Poppi!â
âHang on.. Should you even be in the bath?â Nia had turned back to face the mechanical girl, and was now looking at her with a tilted head to show confusion. âWonât you rust or something?â
In response, Poppi shook her head and kept smiling, eyes bright as ever. âThere no problem. Poppi made from special alloy. No rust or need for oil!â The faint orange glow of her leg joints was visible even through the water, showing that she was kicking them back and forth in her usual manner.
Sapphire smiled at this, only to then jump when she realised Pyra was standing right behind her. Except it wasnât Pyra - where she expected to see kind red eyes instead lay cold golden ones, and the familiar short bob of red hair was replaced by flowing blonde strands.
âWh- Mythra?!â
âYeah?â She looked unamused.
âSorry, mate, you really startled me there!â
Wanting to give Mythra some space, Sapphire stepped out from behind the entrance to the changing room into the proper springs area, prompting Poppi to look surprised and Nia to turn around because of that. Although she still had a towel around her body, the other girls could now all see several swathes of what looked like very old grazes on Sapphireâs arms and the backs of her legs. They seemed to have healed, yet still appeared somewhat serious.
âWait, what happened to you?!â Mythra was first to speak up, sounding more worried than she ever really had. Her usual short temper still shone through, however - she seemed almost annoyed for not noticing the injuries beforehand.
âOh, these?â Sapphire raised her arms halfheartedly, looking somewhat embarrassed. âDonât worry. These are just left over from.. how I got to Uraya. Donât worry, most of itâs all healed up by now. So nothingâs going to mess up the water or anything, I promise.â
There was a silence.
â..I guess I never told you guys about that, huh.â
âNo, you didnât. Not that I was awake for, anyway.â said Mythra.
âYou donât âave to tell us if you donât want to, though.â Nia added. âOnly share what youâre comfortable with.â
Sapphire nodded. âThanks, Nia. Um.. this isnât exactly the place to go all in-depth about that kind of thing, so, ah.. Iâll just say that, from what I know, my parents and I were on a ship crossing the Cloud Sea when it capsized and got washed into Urayaâs Titan. A bit like you guys did, I guess, though there was.. a lot more of an impact. Honestly, I donât even know how I managed to stick around long enough for Dad and his mercs to find me on one of their checkups.â
âOh.. Are you sure youâre okay? That must have been hard..â continued Mythra, still looking worried. There was a flash of glowing energy, and suddenly Pyra was stood in her place, looking even more concerned.
âIâm so sorry for what happened to you, Sapphire! Nobody should have to go through such a horrible thing..â
âPyra, please, Iâm fine! Itâs okay!â Sapphire said, a little too suddenly - quickly realising her mistake, she hastily tried to recover: âI- I really appreciate that you care so much, but, I promise Iâm fine. Come on, letâs just enjoy the springs together.â
As she turned around to put her towel on the rocks behind her before lowering herself into the blissfully warm water, the true extent of Sapphireâs injuries became clearer - the old grazes were nothing in comparison to the massive streak of half-healed scar tissue covering most of her back and shoulders. Parts of it seemed to somehow reflect the low light from the torches and the glow of Poppi and Pyraâs Core Crystals, as if there were tiny specks of something shiny in there.
Niaâs worried expression had returned. âSaph, that really doesnât look good.. You sure youâre alright?â
âYes!â She still seemed slightly on-edge, but being in the water was clearly very relaxing for her. âI already said, it doesnât really hurt. Iâve had all this for as long as I can remember; itâs just how I am. Trust me, it was a lot worse when I was little.â
âPoppi worried about Sapphire..â said Poppi, sounding sad. The stillness of the water and the glowing lights visible under its surface showed that she wasnât playing about anymore.
âAww, itâs okay, Poppi!â Sapphire turned and smiled at her again. âIâm fine, honestly!â
Pyra still wasnât convinced. âYouâd tell us if you werenât, though, right..?â She crouched down at the side of the water and reached over to take Sapphireâs hand in her own.
âOf course I would, silly. Come on in, the water is amazing..â
This made Pyra feel more at ease, and she happily took the chance to sit next to Sapphire, who in turn was all the more grateful to be able to enjoy Pyraâs natural warmth in close proximity. Another silence then settled, though this one was much more natural, and the girls were able to take the time to properly enjoy the heat of the water and relax in the hot springs.
Eventually, never the quiet one, Poppi had something to say.
âPoppi has question for Nia.â
âHuh?â
âWhy does Nia have-?â The artificial Bladeâs inquisitive tone was quickly interrupted by none other than Nia herself, who at this point was almost entirely submerged in the water.
âOh, I know what youâre gonna say, I think. Donât- donât worry about it.â
At this point, Mythra returned, automatically shifting away from Sapphire as she turned to face Nia herself. âI had noticed, too. Itâs true, then, that youâre..?â She trailed off, not knowing how to properly word her own question.
âMmm.. yeah.â
Mythra nodded. âDo you want us to keep it a secret?â
âI was.. a little bit embarrassed about all this, but.. Yeah, if you could, thatâd be grand. Not like I could hide it here when itâs this dark, anyway. As long as you guys are all okay with me being here, then-â
âOf course, mate!â
âPoppi is fine!â
âWhy wouldnât we?â
The chorus of reassuring voices brought her an incredible comfort.
âThanks, guys.â
==========
Later that evening, once everyone had retired to their rooms for the night, Mythra noticed within herself that Pyra seemed nervous.
âSomething wrong?â
âWhat? No! I mean.. We share memories, so youâd know if something was wrong, surely?â
âI guess thatâs true. But, you seemed like you were coming to a decision of some kind. And I mean, I donât really wanna pry if I donât have to.â
âHaha, thank you for that.. And, youâre right about the decision. So, um, Mythra - what do you think about Sapphire?â
âUh.. she seems pretty nice? But she isnât someone you want to make angry, given how mad she was at Malos and Akhos. I wasnât awake yet for all that time you two spent journeying through Uraya, so this was kind of the first time Iâve gotten to interact with her properly. I canât say I was expecting you to get into a relationship, but.. You two make a good fit for each other, even if she is a little more energetic than you tend to be.â
âYou really think so?â
âWouldnât have said it if I didnât.â
âAh, I suppose youâre right.. Sorry!â
âWhyâd you ask that, anyway?â
âWell, itâs just, um.. It was so great for me to know that sheâd be able to come with us after we left Uraya. I know sheâs probably still worried about Vandham, but.. if his injuries have really been patched up as well as they seemed to, then he should recover without too much of a problem, right?â
âYeah, Nia said Dromarch was able to get him stable once I took Obrona out and the ether came back.â
âRight, that was it. And, um.. Since weâve been here in Mor Ardain, Iâve been thinking about something, and.. after that time we all spent together tonight, and being around her like that, I think Iâve figured it out. Sapphire is the person I really want to be with, for the rest of my life. ..However much longer that even ends up being.
I have no idea how Iâm going to go about it, but..
When everyone else has abandoned us, I know Iâll always have you by my side..

This is an MMD render I made for Valentineâs Day, but I figured that - since all my selfship content with Anti-Aqua takes places within an AU version of normal events, i.e. where I selfship with Aqua instead - it could make sense to repost this for AU April! I hope thatâs alright!~
Reblogs of this are appreciated, but by no means required, since it is technically an old piece. There are also some extra images I never posted under the readmore, if youâre curious!~
This one was from a lot earlier on in the process after I had gone a bit overboard with darkness effects, since the pose is different, but I still think it looks pretty neat, so here:
I went through a lot of different angles and expressions when I was making this piece, but itâs one of the rare times when I was actually really happy with how Ariaâs expression turned out given that she doesnât have her mask on. Itâs, again, from slightly earlier in the process since Iâm doing this from my phone and only have what I shared with others already, but have an alternate angle that better shows Ariaâs expression:
Just because weâre evil in this AU doesnât mean we canât also be soft with each other, you know?

âHey, wait, donât touch that! Havenât you ever seen a Frillish before? They have poison stingers on their arms!â
so I still havenât decided what I want Noire to be wearing on her feet but I wanted to show off what I have of her reference model so far, and I figured out a reason for her not to be wearing any shoes by putting her in the water =P
(This post is okay to reblog, but itâs not really related to the selfship I use Noire for, so Iâm not going to tag anyone if thatâs alright! Thereâs also a close-up of Noire under the readmore since it might be hard to see much detail)
Itâs very difficult to properly convey emotions well with Noire because her eyebrows are under her headband half the time, but I figured out that MMD actually works with negative facial values, so I was able to get the expression of mild uncertain surprise pretty accurately!
Maybe I should have turned edge lines off, but oh well.
When Aqua and Aria reach the Dark Margin at the edge of the realm of darkness, they meet Ansem the Wise, who is quickly sought by Ansem, Seeker of Darkness. Aria angrily confronts the fellow Heartless, but finds herself unable to get back to the End of Sea before Riku and King Mickey arrive. (2351 words)
Replaces the KH3 cutscene âAn Unexpected Encounterâ and changes some story events so that âToo Lateâ and âBraving the Darknessâ no longer occur.
My first new piece of selfship writing on this blog, and oh boy is it a big one! I had a lot of fun writing this, so hopefully it makes for a good read, haha ^-^
A transcript of the document is under the readmore! Reblogs of this post would be greatly appreciated, since I was really happy with how this turned out, but theyâre not required by any means~
âWhat is this place..?â
The blue-haired woman slowly walked forwards, marvelling at the sight before her. The endless dark caverns that she had wandered for so long had opened out to a clouded grey beach, lit by what appeared to be a glowing white moon above the horizon. The hard stone underfoot was giving way to soft sand of the same ash-like colour, as waves of murky water gently grazed the shore. It was an eerily tranquil place by the standards of all she had witnessed before, something her companion was quick to notice.
âThere are no Heartless here.â she said. âI almost feel as though I shouldnât be here, either. Aqua.. I think this might be the edge of the realm.â
âSo, weâve made it to the end?â replied Aqua, now making her way towards the shoreline.
âYes, it would appear so. Whatever lies beyond this shore.. It seems less like part of the darkness, and more like something between dark and light. Something that doesnât belong to either force..â
As her partner spoke, Aqua became aware that her voice was growing fainter. When she turned around, she saw that she had made far less progress towards the water, standing awkwardly some distance away with her wings curled around her body. She looked nervous, and unsure what to expect, yet the catlike ears poking straight up through her messy blonde hair showed that she was still as alert as ever, constantly listening for danger even in the silence of the new place they had stumbled across.
âAria, itâs okay! We can keep going, if youâd prefer that. You look tense, and I donât want you to be unsettled.â Â A worried expression flitted across Aquaâs face as she reached out to hold Ariaâs hand - the sudden movement made her flinch in surprise, but she quickly and visibly relaxed as Aqua drew closer. When the two were standing together again, Aqua gently closed both of her hands over Ariaâs, unfazed by the patches of open darkness that ran along them, and smiled as she looked down at her partner.
âThank you..â she mumbled quietly. âIâm alright, I just- donât know what to expect here.â
It was then that, behind the Keyblade Master, Aria spotted a hooded figure sitting some distance away, hidden by a black coat but appearing to gaze out over the barely-moving water. Though she still let Aqua hold her right hand, she slowly shifted to free her left and moved to stand at Aquaâs side in one fluid movement. Then she extended her left arm and a mass of dark energy enveloped the space beside her, dissipating quickly to reveal a jagged dark red Keyblade.
âIdentify yourself!â
Her shout echoed across the shore, leading the figure to turn its head and slowly stand up. As it started to walk across the sand, it removed its hood to reveal an older-looking man with piercing orange eyes and wispy light blond hair. He looked tired, and his face bore the wrinkled lines of worry as he observed the two Keyblade wielders.
âPlease, stay your weapon. I mean you no harm.â
Aria wasnât overly convinced, but she could see that the man did not have the strength to be a threat, so she lowered her Keyblade. Aqua was curious to find out more, taking a step forward.
âWho are you? How did you end up in this place?â
The man sighed wistfully, folding his hands behind his back. âMy name was.. stolen by another, and I can feel this place taking its toll on my memory. Iâm sorry. I know that I have only been here for a fairly short time, and that I was sent here by the destruction of the machine I created to encode Kingdom Hearts in data.â
âBefore that..â He turned to look out over the water again, unwilling to meet Aquaâs gaze. âI caused a great deal of misery to many individuals, through both my recent actions and my previous research. It is clear to me now that I was deeply in the wrong about some of my original beliefs.. Now, I can only hope for a chance to atone for my deeds.â
âItâs alright.â Ariaâs Keyblade had disappeared from her hand. âI can see now that your heart holds a true desire for.. repentance, or something of that nature. Iâm not sure what the right word is, but.. The point is that you wonât be harmed, by either of us.â
âYes, of course!â Aqua added. âI think youâll be safe here, at least, since the Heartless donât seem to come here. And, I canât claim to know what youâve done, but.. Whatâs important is that you recognise your mistakes, and that you want to make up for them.â
The man seemed relieved, and turned back to face the pair with a shadow of a smile on his face. âThank you, both of you. I admit that I was not expecting to meet anyone else in this infernal prison. If I may ask, what are your names?â
âOh, thereâs no time for that now.â
A dark portal had opened up, and from it stepped an imposing and well-built man in a similar black coat. He had slicked-back long silver hair and similarly piercing eyes to the old man, though his were a cold golden colour. Ariaâs eyes narrowed at his approach, as it was clear that he was a powerful user of darkness, though the true nuance was only visible to her.
âWhat- Whatâs going on?â Aqua asked, turning to face the man with suspicion. He ignored her for the moment, focusing only on the older man, who in turn was glaring fiercely at the intruder as he approached.
âYou..â
âMaster.. I must have a word with you.â
âMaster?â he echoed. âSo now you mock me..â The disapproval dripped from his voice like bitter venom. The interloper opened his mouth to respond, but-
âLeave.â
Aria had broken away from Aquaâs grasp and now stood defiantly before the intruder, Keyblade still in hand.
âExcuse me?â The man raised an eyebrow and sneered down at her, surprised by her actions.
âI know what you are, Ansem.â she snarled back. âI have known your power since before you even existed. A villainous Heartless with a natural human form - the one that took the title of âseeker of darknessâ and is shadowed by a twisted dark figure. You think youâre so strong, but you are not the one who holds power here.â
This last statement had clearly struck a nerve, and Ansemâs expression of contempt soured into anger. âYouâre certainly an astute one.. But what makes you think you could possibly face me?â
âHave your eyes gone blind as well as gold? If I can tell what you are, you can tell what I am. I have seen more than you will ever achieve, especially now that youâre afflicted with some other presence. That-â - she pointed up at his eyes - â-is Xehanortâs power, isnât it? If youâre with him, that makes you our enemy.â
At this point, Aquaâs worried expression had returned. âAria, be careful..â
âAqua, get that man somewhere out of the way. Iâm going to stop this before it becomes a problem.â
âYou are a fool to challenge me, girl!âÂ
An eruption of darkness burst forth from the Heartless, and the powerful frame of the Dark Figure rose up from his shadow. Aria quickly leapt up into the air, spreading her wings to soar over Ansemâs head as he lashed out. To deflect the residual impact of his outburst, Aqua summoned a Barrier spell, then started to help the old man escape once he had turned around.
The force of that initial burst - not even a targeted attack, merely an effect driven by the might of his anger - instantly made Aria aware of the strength Ansem possessed, and she knew she would have to be careful. Her advantage was agility, as the darkness she could draw from her surroundings to aid her flight was limitless. She darted out of his reach and flew up and away from the Dark Figureâs grasp, firing shockwaves of unearthly blue energy at both it and Ansem. The monster seemed unfazed, but Ansem himself was slowed down in his pursuit of her, only to then retaliate with a barrage of violet orbs, which Aria was able to flit between. At every twist and turn, she flew further away from him, enraging him even more as he was forced to give chase.
âWhat is this insolence?!â Ansem yelled. âYou should be obeying me!â
âDoes it look like that matters?â she replied, deftly evading another blast of dark energy. âI already told you - youâre not the one who holds power here. Even if you did, Vesâ presence is enough to protect me. I donât care what you think you deserve!â
Another flash of darkness, this time from Aria herself - she had switched her Keyblade from its dark mode to its diamond mode, now shimmering with cold blue light, and enveloped herself in a shadowy aura to strengthen herself. Still soaring on her wings, their black feathers gleaming with energy drawn from the realm, she sent a rain of insightful flames down from above, then her Keyblade became electrified and she hurled it spinning towards him.
âMaybe you meant something, once. But now youâve let yourself be taken over by someone whoâs not even strong enough to control you completely. Take it from someone who knows - all that does is weaken you!â
âEnough of this!â
Suddenly, the Dark Figure wrested itself from Ansemâs shadow and lunged forwards into the air, followed swiftly by Ansem himself, roaring and surrounding himself with a wall of intense darkness. As Aria dropped through the air to avoid his charge, a blast of ice struck him from behind. It was Aqua, channeling magic even without her Keyblade to act as a conduit. The impact threw Ansem off-course, but the Dark Figure swept around and managed to grab hold of Aria.
âAgh!â
âLet go of her!â Aqua cried, trying to fire more magic without hitting Aria. Ansemâs attention remained focused on the Keyblade Master, while the Dark Figure tightened its powerful grip as if to crush Aria entirely. She desperately writhed and struggled, holding onto the figure with her right hand and trying to slash at it with the Keyblade in her left. After a few moments, it became shrouded in a dark mist, as if dissipating, and she was able to slip from its hold when another direct hit from Aqua made Ansem stumble.
Anger still pulsed through him like a poison as he shouted at the both of them. âI will not lose to an obstinate recusant and a lost guardian with no Keyblade to protect herself!â
Clearing the space around him by emitting a shockwave of energy, Ansem started to summon a massive crest of darkness above him, reaching all the way up to the ceiling. The Dark Figure was still clawing at Aria, as if enraged at how she had stolen some of its power to escape it, but she felt confident she would be able to evade the incoming blow. She could tell that he was not at his full strength anymore, and the intricate crest was already starting to lose its shape, contorting into a misshapen orb of raw darkness.
Then she saw where Ansem was aiming.
âDonât you dare!-â
In the instant before the orb struck her, all Aqua saw was a flurry of feathers, and then came the dark impetus. Something fell from her sash as she was knocked to the ground, and she was only aware of something- someone- Aria being launched through the air above her, sent flying further back into the dark.Â
Just then, a shower of stars came soaring in from the direction of the otherworldly beach. Their light seemed to pierce through the darkness like a blade through fog, and Aqua couldnât help but feel a surge of hope as she saw them strike the Heartless.
âOh no you donât!â
A familiar and determined cry from none other than King Mickey himself - the little mouse had leapt to the fray and brandished his Star Cluster Keyblade to help Aqua out. From behind him, another Keyblade wielder in plaid clothing was running towards them, carrying a sword of grey metal with ease.
Aqua recognised him immediately, even though he had grown considerably. âRiku! Mickey! Is it really you?â
âGah..â Ansem staggered back to his feet, clearly injured from Mickeyâs attack, and glared at them all in turn. âYou have not won this.. You will not prevail!â
Another dark corridor opened up, then it was gone, and he was gone.
âI donât feel good about letting him get away like that..â said Mickey. âShould we try and go after him?â
âThereâs no time!â Riku exclaimed, his green eyes clouded with concern. âWe need to get you out of here, Aqua, and bring Ansem the Wise with us, too. I donât know how long the corridor I made will stay open for.â
âWait, but-â
Mickey nodded at Rikuâs words with a determined expression. âYouâre right. Iâm not leaving without you again, Aqua!â
All the while, Aria was desperately flying.
The light of all their hearts, and of the corridor, was blinding, especially for one so accustomed to the dark - but she kept racing forwards, using them as a guiding beacon. Sharp spikes of rock loomed down from the ceiling, as if the jaws of a monster were trying to consume her, to keep her trapped in the realm that had already held her for so long. No. She wouldnât lose her. This would be her only chance to escape.
The lights flickered, once, twice, three times - and then it was all extinguished. Fatigue from her injuries mixed with overwhelming emotions brought Aria to the ground with a sob. She crashed to the floor just metres away from where her love had been so cruelly rescued, clinging onto what Aqua had so sadly left behind.
