storywise fifi actually had no cuteness to me until the later trailer/story dropped idek i think that might've been the mind control. i feel kindof evil saying this but sometimes think finsen is cute in like... a pitiful way 🤧 like it was endearing to me that he was trying so hard despite failing and being miserable. it was endearing to me that he was miserable.
designwise i think it would be the mold spots freckles 😞. also his slime feelers move around when he sleeps and i think its cute its like tail wagging behaviour

I liked his sort of conflicting interests and goals, I talked abt it in my older Finsen hc post but I like that he tries to be both this ruthless ambitious person chasing success by any means necessary + a gentle person trying to learn compassion, and that he doesn't/can't fully realize either of these. I think it's sweet that he chose to do a good deed in the end but he still did that other shit and its kinda funny to me srry #evil
Speaking of, it's also interesting how Finsen was kind of a hypocrite for a solid chunk of his story in the sense that he ends up being part of the problem that plagued him (?). I bring up this example every day but I think the scene where Finsen ignores someone experiencing the same bullying he experienced really paints a strong picture of his character at that time. We don't know if he fully outgrows this weird darksided dog-eat-dog mindset but imo it fits with his later rationalizing his actions as a necessary evil. That being said idk if he thinks his test subjects deserve it for being "weak" or if it's more of a "it is what it is" attitude. The way I interpret it, his experiments are done in service of a greater goal, but not necessarily for the greater good; while he is working on a medical treatment, iirc the way he talks about it doesn't focus as much on the potential to help others as much as he's desperate to prove that he can do something right.
I wanna say this sort of duality is tricky in an audience discussion sort of way? In the sense that it's hard to definitively say what his final actions (and later fixation on baby teeth and protection) imply about his character, esp given we don't have much info so far. This isn't aimed at anybody in particular but I think the general reception to his debut sometimes led to him being interpreted either as a more cartoony sadistic villain, or (mostly post-trailer release) he was a misunderstood tragic martyr. Idk it's kind of unfair to claim that he's somehow redeemed in his sacrifice — he killed and tortured a lot of people — morally, what does it mean if he also saves a ward full of innocent children right before he dies? I'm not trying to pose a thought experiment here lmao I just think that netease was trying to make him more nuanced but still a person who did terrible things when refurbishing their old "Evil Dentist" concepts to try and add complexity.
ok last one I was also thinking about his overall relationship with the institution of healthcare — he spends so much of the first part of his life in proximity to the medical industry given his dad is in the field and his CIP means he'll need more frequent care than average, yet his story doesn't explicitly point to anyone other than childhood peers for the source of his alienation from other people. I would argue that given the setting, there was probably at least rockiness as a patient with a then not well understood condition. Like I think it checks out for him to sympathize with like, hospitalized children specifically in the sense that it's something he experienced as well; but on the flip side he also made the decision to pick out certain vulnerable people to do unethical experiments on. I don't really have a conclusion to this, its not as though he can't do both but it is an interesting combination because they kinda come from the same place.
