Longest. Day. Ever.
I don’t usually make personal texts posts but today has been a very long, exhausting day. I’m on Spring Break so I’m not on my normal sleeping pattern, which resulted in very little sleep last night.
This morning at 8 am I got a phone call saying my Mom was in a car accident. She hit her head and the car wasn’t drivable but she was okay. I was the only one that could go to her though. I was out of bed long enough to throw on some clothes, grab my purse, and get in the car to drive to the next town.
She had been driving through a four way stop and the car on her right blasted through the stop sign at a high speed and rammed into her car on the back passenger door. Her car was hit hard enough, it spun 3/4 the way around.
By 9 am after a few more phone calls and stopping by her work I had her at the ER to get checked out. Ironically, the woman that hit her is the head of nurses at the hospital. It took 3 hours to get her checked in, get a CT to check her neck and head, get results, and get checked out. In this time, I had nothing to eat or drink since 5 pm the night before. I was too focused in helping my Mom, fielding phone calls, and keeping family updated. By 12, the room was spinning and I was disoriented because my blood sugar dropped. Thankfully, after eating something I perked back up. Needless to say though, I felt horrible because my Mom was helping me at that point rather than me helping her.
After all this though, she had to stop by work and fill her boss in. Then we had to stop by where they had originally towed her car and get some stuff out of it before they towed it to the mechanic the insurance company required.
Cue several phone calls while I drive to the next county (40 minutes from her work) so she can talk to the mechanics. We’re there an hour.
Then we have to drive another 20 minutes to the next town to the car rental. The first round with them take 20 minutes. 15 minutes after we left, we’re back to switch cars. The one they gave us had issues. We’re there ANOTHER 20 minutes. Then we have to run an errand (partilaly because I thought my taillight was out) and drive home. Almost an hour from the rental place.
We didn’t pull into our drive way until 6 pm.
Mom is fine, thank god, and my niece wasn’t in the car. She had dropped her off at school 2 minutes before the accident. She has a minor concussion, some bruising, and whiplash. Tired and sore overall. She’ll be more sore tomorrow.
I’m exhausted and frustrated. The woman that hit my mother was speeding because she was late for a meeting. No meeting is worth this! My mother could have been seriously injured. My niece could have been in the car, directly where the vehicles impacted. Thankfully the injuries are only minor and everyone is okay.
Addition: The other driver was uninjured in the accident, and her Highlander only had bumper damaged to our knowledge.
