She jumps at the sound of a voice behind her. But then again, she’s always jumping at something nowadays. The longer they’re here, the more on edge she feels. It’s different over here than it is when they’re back home. Home is safe, she’s on her own turf, she knows the limits and guidelines and what to expect. But here it’s unpredictable. Wild. And she’s surrounded by guys who are at their peak of macho manliness. ❝ Hey, ❞ She smiles, scooting over a bit to make room for him on the small step in case he wants to sit. ❝ It’s quiet. ❞ Caroline gives a shrug of her shoulder before looking back down at the beer in her hand that still hasn’t really been touched. ❝ I uh, ❞ She glances back over her shoulder towards the fire that a few of the guys have gotten going, managing a small smile before she looks back up at him. ❝ Not really my thing. War stories and macho guy stuff. ❞
Dylan stood a moment longer, glancing back behind them towards the glow of the fire and the raucous laughter and Sonny’s cussing -- but he did eventually stoop, sitting rather stiffly thanks to the rigorous demands of being downrange. Caroline’d more than solidified herself as an asset to the team... and more than that, part of the team; whether that’d ever been her intentions or not. He figured she might want a moment or two of company. Felt a little better about wandering over since she’d offered the spot.
“Got enough detail in the After Action Reports, huh? Y’know the stories only get better and better every time Sonny tells ‘em.” He lifted the swill Davis’d found for them to his lips, smiling as he passed the back of his hand over his chin and looked out to the dirt paths before them. “But you’ve probably got your own you can’t tell, not even to us, right? Top Spooks secrets. Super classified. Makes our jobs look less... dignified.” He still didn’t really know how to talk to her -- but he found himself checking in on her anyway from time to time, whether he ever got the feeling she wanted him to or not. Call it a small fascination, but she just... wasn’t like anybody else here. Sometimes it pissed him off. Mostly he just found it refreshing.
